That's totally safe. Cats defy physics, stupid.

This is why cats should need a license to carry a fire arm, at least shotguns. It's the right to bear arms, not cat arms.

Speaking as someone who routinely hears stories (usually at the range) of "it went off by accident", I don't buy his story.

Guns don't go off by accident. Period.

The modern term is "negligent discharge" or ND, for short.

At the very least, he was negligent. Lowering the hammer in the way he describes on a loaded shotgun indoors is asking for a shot to be fired.

I actually believe he shot the cat on purpose.

But, if he sticks to his story, we can say he was negligent, and find him guilty.

It wasn't an accident that the shotgun was loaded.

It wasn't an accident that he chambered a live round.

It wasn't an accident that he pointed it at the cat.

It wasn't an accident that he cocked the hammer.

It wasn't an accident that he "attempted to lower the hammer".

It wasn't an accident that he did all these things while drunk.

Maybe all their claws could be dipped in cobra venom? :D

I think the hell for cat-shooters is to be locked in a small room with armed cat-lovers for all eternity (with regular respawn rates so they can't escape torture by being torn to bits). :p

With that record history I'd bet he himself is an accident... ;)

Heh it does make me laugh all of this cat/dog malarky.

A freind of mine insists you are ethier a cat person or a dog person.

I have cats at the mo, they are nice, the kids love em, we all play with them, and I'm glad they are our pets. Still they're only cats, they are not memebers of my family.

I grew up with both dogs and cats, and I like both equaly, but they're pets, just pets.

Pets are part of the family too, no matter which way you define them to yourself. But elevating them to a human's status is a bit silly.

However, the story here (and our hate of the gunman) stems from him trying to claim the cat caused the shooting while he himself shot the cat (no matter what excuse he gives). His lies at trying to avoid the responsibility for his actions is what angers me most, not the species of the animal. Could have been a pet snake for all I care and it wouldn't change the story.

As for people being cat/dog people... I have an irrational fear of dogs (childhood traumas :D), but I love cats, so I'd say I'm a cat person. :)

If your cat thinks that you are lame, they shit in your shoes, piss all over your furniture, and then run off forever.
