Its Barcelona-based architects say the space hotel will be the most expensive in the galaxy, costing $4 million for a three-day stay.

And how exactly do they know that then?
I'm led to believe that the Novotel around Proxima Centauri is hideously expensive, but the breakfasts are fantastic:D

You haven't seen the Mandarin hotel near the Galactic Core have you? Not just the stays, but have you seen what they charge for event horizon surfing?

Architects from Barcelona? Hopefully they do know that building over there goes very slow. The Sagrada Familia takes ages, so what about this hotel? :p

You know, some people enjoy jumping out of the windows of their hotel rooms(or if they are too high, climbing down the outside from balcony to balcony).

You know, the idea of a love hotel has always confused me...why is it that Japan has them and no place else does?

There's a reason the Japanese call us foreigners 'barbarians'. ;)

[Plays] "Making Love out of Nothing at all"

I learned to drink my water
From a tube and not a cup.
I learned to swallow weightlessly
And then I learned to not throw up.

I’ve learned to brew my coffee,
And to make a tea bag steep.
I’ve learned to put my clothes on right,
And I’ve learned the way to sleep.

And I’ve learned to sail the tubeways,
And how not to touch the wall.
And not to jump three meters
When you brush me in the hall.

And I know we’re out in orbit,
And I know we just learned to fly.
And the thing we should be learning is the way to ease the yearning
that builds up in all these months in the sky!

And I know the laws of Newton.
A solution must exist.
I know all the rules, and I’m real good at math’matics,
but I shouldn’t need a slide rule for this!

But I don’t know how to love you
Under zero - G free fall .
No, I don’t know how to do it:
Making love, weighing nothing at all .

Every time I see you all the tides of the Sun
Will keep nudging you away from my hands .
And every star in the skies will try to tug at your thighs
Like a magnet.

That harness I was issued might help, but it’s lost,
And I need it for a lover like you.
Why, just vibrations from the beat of my heart
Will tend to send our bodies bouncing further apart
In zero gravity!
And every thing I’ve learned
Isn’t helping me to hold on to you !

I can make a perfect takeoff.
I can make the shuttle dock.
And make unpowered landings under hurricane winds
on a landing field covered with rock.

I can make you weightless flapjacks,
And I can make a perfect spherical soufflé.
And I can get into my pants and do both legs at one time
and still not let all my loose change float away.

But I’m never gonna get into your pants,
Not in zero-G free fall.
’Cause I’m never gonna learn how to do it:
Making love, weighing nothing at all.

Word OTI is that doing some hardcore anal sex in Japan is like saying hello.

I was wondering when someone was going to go there with something like this. Japan on the outside seems straight and narrow. Start looking around and you will find a startling deviant side that can compete with anywhere.

Well, that was part joke. "Word OTI" is almost equal to "This is not entirely true but funny".

But really, as I've heard, they're much more open about sex, which means sex hotels have no need to hide. They also don't have lots of cheap but big old cars where teens are stereotypically supposed to have sex in US when short on money.

Tis a cheap rabuho that only has gaming and karaoke... Gotta have the rotating bed, Hello Kitty S&M dungeon gear, etc. ;)

I still like the karaoke option though.

Me too. We've both been over here tooooooo long....

You know, the idea of a love hotel has always confused me...why is it that Japan has them and no place else does?

They have them elsewhere - Korea and Taiwan I know for sure, and I'm pretty sure they have them in Malaysia and other places.

There are a number of cultural factors leading to them here in Japan.

1) Small housing - a large bedroom suite can be much more romantic than a tiny 1DK apartment.
2) Most people utilising them do so for privacy, as it's common to live in a small house or apartment with an extended family, even after marriage.
2a) It's still very common for single adults to live with their parents, and it's extremely unseemly to have an overnight visitor of the opposite sex.
4) Prostitution. 'nuff said?

All that aside, anybody got $4Mil to spare?

Ah. All good reasons(so long as the prostitution is legal, the prostitutes are protected by law, are able to get the health care they need, and all of their clients are checked for STDs prior to service.) Thank you.

As for the four million...I wish I had that spare. I'd be using it for some neat purposes, like having a home built.

Well, prostituition was pro forma outlawed here in 1956. But it's a bit complicated, as many things are here...

Sex workers are not yet organized well enough to protect their interests...

Hmm... seeing as I've become rather something of a union activist lately, I might have to do some organising... ;)
