House Republicans seen walking on the mall

Republicans walked out on a House vote late Thursday night to protest what they believed to be Democratic maneuvers to reverse an unfavorable outcome for them.
The rancor erupted shortly before 11 p.m. as Rep. Michael R. McNulty (D-N.Y.) gaveled closed the vote on a standard procedural measure with the outcome still in doubt.
One GOP aide saw McNulty gavel the vote to a close after receiving a signal from his leaders -- but before reading the official tally. And votes continued to shift even after he closed the roll call -- a strange development in itself.
“Obviously, the Democrats don’t want to stand up against illegal immigration — so much so that they’re willing to cheat in order to win a vote,” Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) said in an e-mail. “They’re desperate — and it shows.”
I don't really know what to make of this. It sounds like the dems might have "cheated" but the republicans certainly didn't show much maturity.

I expect more backroom dealings and pork added to any legislation involved before this is done.

It wouldn't be the first time. In the Nineteenth century, one Senator went ape shit and beat another Senator unconcious with his cane.
I'm sure there have been other such fisticuffs in the past, and I look forward to their return. It's about time there was some blood on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Don't make him angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.

If you fall asleep in Congress, Ted Stevens will kill you in your dreams.

Probably, I am a collector of such political trivia.
Further investigation informs me that it was Preston Brooks (Congressman) who beat Charles Sumner (Senator) unconscious. Sumner didn't return to the Senate for three years after that.
Further details here (http://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/The_Caning_of_Senator_Charles_Sumner.htm), for any who are interested/bored.
Boy howdy.
I'd do it myself, but I don't stand a chance in Hell of winning election.

Not quite the same situation as Lawrence of Arabia. :p

Ah, don't sell yourself short. The political landscape is already swinging hell-ward, so you may have a better chance than you purport. :)

I've read a bit into this- apparently he gaveled just as someone was changing their vote, and then three Democrats changed their votes to vote for the Democrats side.
The Republicans aren't that mad, apparently McNulty's well liked by the republicans overall
fucking politics....all they are are lying rich men.
i dont care the party, i have no faith in almost ANY elected official to lead our country (US)

Oh mods you know that falling asleep in Congress is almost IMPOSSIBLE to avoid.
Especially during the times where Stevens is orating semi-calmly and NOT freaking out.
