Sports Milestones

I was at last Sunday's Cubs-Mets game (obviously rooting against the Cubs). I'm sure that those of you who follow sports are aware that Tom Glavine got his 300th win that night. It was great to see. I just wish Cub fans could have been more respectful to him, but what else can I expect from drunk low lifes?

I'm just curious to see what sports milestones you have witnessed in person.

I still can't top my dad. He got to go to the Bears-Saints game on October 7, 1984, and saw Walter Payton break Jim Brown's all-time rushing record.

You're fucking kidding me, right? Your comments are obviously from a Mets fan... Because the Cubs fans gave Glavine a standing O when he walked off the mound! I was watching the game!

If a standing ovation isn't good enough for Glavine winning his 300th game, I dunno what is...

I was at Maple Leaf Gardens the night that Darryl Sittler scored 6 goals and 4 assists. The most points scored in one game!!

But perhaps the single most memorable Sittler moment for Leaf fans came February 7, 1976 in historic Maple Leaf Gardens. Sittler collected ten points - six goals and four assists - in Toronto's 11-4 win over Don Cherry's Boston Bruins. In this one game Sittler established two NHL records, tied another, and set four club records.
The closest ANY other NHLer has come is 8 points, so it is truly an amazing feat!!

I was also at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto when the Toronto Blue Jays clinched their first American League East pennant in 1985:

Hassey hit a fly ball that George Bell easily caught for the final out. I remember him down on his knees rejoicing, receiving a high five from Tony Fernandez. We had clinched the AL Eastern division pennant.

*insanely jealous* I haven't even been able to watch any Mets games for the past month! Gah!

I've yet to see any significant individual milestone in the making live.

I witnessed an 11 year old girl get out an entire line of fifteen people, most of them 14-15 year olds, in a game of 4 square.

She's fucking legendary.

Son, I pull off the jump through the leg, the soft touch, the behind the back, the spike, the fake spike, the chop, the killer serve, and the drop serve.

I'm waiting for college to get a team for the Championships in Maine.

Concrete sidewalk. Our school has comparatively large sidewalk squares, so we play on those.

I, a junior, dropped my books many times during lunch this past year just to play four square with frosh.

The cameras probably didn't pan out to the bleachers then. I know that there were fans elsewhere in the stadium giving him an ovation, but the bleacher bums were giving him hell.

They were being Cubs fans until they knew Glavine was coming out for the last time, and then they gave him a standing ovation.

And the reason why I thought it was funny was... Chicago Cubs. Chicago White Sox. A.J. Pierzynski. Michael Barrett. Yeah.
