CONCACAF Comedy

Who on earth does this gentlemen think he is? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/6939170.stm)

FIFA executive non-entity that he is (hell, at least the odious Blatter actually had a professional career of some quality), Mr. Warner's statement is wracked with flaws;

- English football is not quite as unpopular as he would have us believe. It is held up by other footballing authorities as a model of commericial success, and as a model for the proper policing of football. Only Juve ultras still retain an implacable hatred for English football (incidentally, in their case, so would I).

- England has contributed greatly to the commercial, legal, logistical, and footballing, development of the game. Unlike his own country one might note....

- the previous World Cup to take place in Concacaf was nothing short of farcical. USA 94 was an embaressment to FIFA and the world game, littered with interruptions for "commercials" throughout the game, and framed in American glitz, glamour and celebrity.

- the 3 European countries given precedent by the Concacaf clown have all hosted world cups since 1966, and have been blighted by a plethora of controversies of late, all of which are rather more serious than the Tevez affair.

Strangely, an ex-professional of rather more standing amongst FANS of the game, a certain Franz Beckanbauer, endorsed the claim of England to the 2018 World Cup. He is quite correct; by 2018, Old Trafford, the Emirates, the New Anfield/Stanley park, St. James' park and Eastlands will all be able to supplement Wembley as world class stadia able to provide upwards of 50,000 capacity per game.

The US is trying to swing 2014 if Brazil(?) drops the ball on their stadiums. Honestly, I'd like to see it back here because I was only 4 when it was last here and didn't appreciate the game as much.

I'd go to England though.

1966, biatch. How's that for an impact on football?

Or maybe even creating it? He wouldn't even have a job if it wasn't for us. He needs to be more grateful.

well of all the countries that have won the world cup, england have won it the least, so '66 isn't really that important.

I must agree with you, definitely that the CONCACAF region should not host the World Cup; the Caribbean just doesn't have the infrastructure, and the Cricket world cup there was, frankly, a farce. I don't see why the World Cup should be given (again) to the USA, which doesn't take 'soccer' seriously. But perhaps Mexico might be a viable host? After all, Mexicans are passionate about their football. As far as Europe is concerned, yes, it would be nice to host the World Cup in Britain, but, despite being an Englishman, my supposrt is with the potential Benelux bid, simply because they have never hosted the World Cup before, and they need putting on the map.

It's important to us. Ever since WWII, we've not done that great. We gloat when we can get it.

er, hello: Canada. Last junior cup was a resounding success (except for chilean-police problems). Sure, we'd be a joke on the field but we can organize a good cup.

A more credible location than either the USA or Carribean, but it might be ruined by the fact you wouldn't qualify to compete in it.

What about stadia in Canada?

Hmm, not qualifying when hosting. . . Canada could pull it off. :p

:p

Mind you, we did qualify for one world cup in which we manage to attend the 3 games we lost without scoring a single goal. Makes me feel quite proud. Take that all those suckers who never qualified. I'm looking at you, Togo.

No impact on international football? A lot of the best players in the world play in our domestic leagues. This guy seems to have a grudge against England. Though maybe he doesn't like the idea of them hosting the Olympics and World Cup so close together, though that shouldn't be a consideration.

about the WC I think:

# qualifying should be inter-continental.
# Last 16 (men standing) get to play at the finals.
# Top team from top 5 continents gets a spot.

and.. eventually I would love to see a WC every 2 years.
