The Death of NS?

Has general gotten quieter? Is NS dying? It seems like the forum is smaller, contains less active and total topics, fewer posters, and lacks the bustling buzz I remember previously.
Actually I kind of prefer it, but is it actually happening? Are we witnessing the slow and agonising extinction of NSG?

When it gets too quiet, I post three or four topics.
Then pantless says I'm spamalicious.
So I hold off for a few days.
There aren't many new members, and with the old members, we already know everyone's opinions on the major topics.
Yeah, but NS does this all the time. Around this time of year, families are in a big push to go camping then get ready for school. Then allot of the students are going to spend the last week before school starts trying to get a sufficient NS fix.

Just to let everyone that yet haven't found out:
- It's called summer. People aren't active as much.
- Then, we have some odd national holidays in autumn. We say: It's the holidays, people aren't active as much.
- Then, we have winter. People aren't active as much, either, cause it's winter, busy with other stuff and holidays.
- Then, we have spring. I don't know what we have in spring, but surely people aren't active as much in spring either.
If you get my hint. If not, better.

Wait... Are we talking about NSG or NationStates in general?
In any case:
Is NS (or NSG, whatever you meant) dying?
Sure is, that's the way all earthly stuff goes. Remember Rogue? Or Omega? You don't... well, you haven't been around in the 80's (or were to young type on a keyboard).
Is it dying now, right now, coming in sight of the verge of death just this very moment?
Propably not. The fact that despite the extreme simplicity of NS, the game still attracts so many players means that it won't die from having out-dated graphics or an out-dated combat system. Otherwise it would have died the very first day.
Alternative explanation for plummeting activity:
Norther Hemisphere - People bein' bussy with summer stuff.
Southern Hemisphere - :pPeople bein' bussy with winter stuff.
Me - Sitting in my basement, on my computer, surrounded by heaps empty coke cans and pizza boxes and wearing a shirt I haven't changed for weeks. It's certainly not ME who let's NS go down the drain. No, just kiddin - about the coke and pizza part. An' the shirt of course.

One of the best things about NSG compared to some other places on the internet is that most of the people here have lives out in the real world, rather than being nerds who haven't left their room in five years. That means that sometimes real life draws the posters away, especially at periods such as the summer break.
I've been busy moving house recently, and so have only been able to have a quick look on here every day or two for a few weeks now; being extremely busy at this point in time, though, hardly means that I'll never post on here again. I don't think it's going too far out on a limb to say the same will hold true for a lot of other posters.

ghosts are difficult to hang on to. there are much more neater and funner things a country can do besides make war and play soccer. honest.
i haven't the slightest idea how much more or less active anything is becoming either.
but i do know infrastructure and keeping people from starving or wanting to break something is a lot more rewarding the mass producing expendable munitions.
how to keep people from WANTING to break something is something i'm no authority on either. other then that beating them over the head for doing so, not only doesn't appear very well to work, but even a little thought will reveal no good clear reason to expect it to.
and you can only convince them that slavery is freedom for just so long, although the automobile has done a reasonably good job of that in the so called western/norther portions of the mundane world for more then 50 years.
but making everything be about indenture AND making so obviously fall apeart flimsy practically insures that sooner or later enough people will notice to at the very least quietly stop going along with it.
and with that going on, the mass appeal of war and soccer may be loosing its edge. that DOESN'T mean the simulation of running nations the way we fantasize about how the would be, could be, should needs to.
it just needs a fresh injection of something other then war and soccer, and guns and cars, fifty foot humanoid robots and shootem ups in space, and thinking inside the box of symbolic value.
windfarms, monorails and libraries with jaccussis, however far fetched in their specifics, arn't bad for a start.
libraries with gardens and coffee shops would be better. and volunteer run free ultra-light railways would be even better.
even capitolism would work though, if people didn't get so carried away as to try and make a universe that's just a wee bit bigger then all of us put togather, begin and end with it.
for the past ten years the mundane world has shown us things that for the fifty years before them anyone who would have taken seriously the possibility of would have been considered some kind of end of the world loonie.
i don't thing the chainges we've seen are the kind anyone would have wanted if they had thought about it very much. some did. many didn't.
those of us who did, got labled all sorts of things. none of them intended to be flattering.
the whole appeal of rollplay is the potential to try things that would be to irreversable in the mundane world not to test in a more contained environment first. or at least that is and was its appeal to me.
frankly i'm quite baffled as to the escape found or even persued, in simulating, if anything, what they are already surrounded by and overfamiliar with, and with the at best highly questionable resaults thereof.
the world of shaired fantasy simulation gaming has an amazing potential to grow into. one that like that of so many other media, has long been dissappointingly neglected for the sake of the primacy of symbolic value.
i really think, the community of us here, could make so much more gratifying of a context of it. and that just as in the mundane world, it is up to us togather, to do so.

I can translate Cameroi as I've been studying it for a while, for it a complex yet rewarding language.
"Things change, in the real world it takes time because we become slaves to the status quo and this can be harmful. Yet in role-playing games, we can explore the infinite and, instead of limiting ourselves to discussions based on the real world, we should explore the vast universes of our imagination.
By this, not only will we extend the interest of discussions, but we might find great things out there that we can bring back to the real world."
Alas, for Cameroi, this often means narrow gauge railways, but he's merely one cog in the vast machine of NS.
