Zeitgeist
Surprised nobody's posted this yet - a search didn't come up with anything... though it did bring up random results, which is odd. Maybe it searched the Engilsh translation for zeitgeist, 'Spirit of the Time'.
www.zeitgeistmovie.com
Part 1: Christianity is a metaphor for astrology. This part made me laugh.
Part 2: The government orchestrated 9/11. This part got me pissed off. No, it's not loose change.
Part 3: The central bank controls the US, and by proxy, the world. This part scared the shit out of me.
Everyone - yes, everyone; republican, democrat, christian, athiest, white, black, American, European - everyone needs to see this movie.
It's a full-length documentary, so it's 2 hours long and starts after buffering right there on the front page. It's worth your time, even if at the end you don't believe a word of it.

Meh, I heard about it a while ago and it didn't sound too impressive.
Might watch it if I have two hours spare and I am tired poking myself in the eye with a rusty spoon

Huh? Why?

Because at the very least it'll make you think. At the most, it'll open your eyes to things you hadn't even considered. Win/win, unless you're content to being ignorant of the subjects at hand. =)

From how I recall it being described to me it sounded like the standard 9/11 and assorted conspiracy theories tied to pseudohistory with Dan Brown's knicker elastic.
Still, I might watch some time to give it a fair and balanced view.

Pfeh. Dan Brown sucks cawk.
Also, it's ridiculous to, from the get-go, dismiss all conspiracy theories as false simply because they're conspiracy theories. If they don't make sense, sure, but this seems to fit.

As I said, I'll get round to watching it eventually. But all I heard it that it is full of the standard CTer crap. I even used to believe this crap.
I have watched many of these videos, forgive me if I'm running out to watch what I'll expect to be same-old, same-old.
Also you may think that it is ridiculous to dismiss CTs, just because they are CTs. And I agree, it should be ridiculous. But experience has taught me that dismiss CTs for this fact works as a good rule of thumb. Sad but true, but they all recycle the same old junk anyway.

Its important when you watch that kind of movie to keep yourself some reserve on what they say.
But it become troubling when doing some research you realize the true/reality is sometime much more worse that what is exposed in the movie....

Again: It's not the loose change argument. Unless loose change recently came out with a new version I don't know about, which I doubt.

I've never heard any CT's about the central bank. In fact, I've rarely ever heard the central bank mentioned in any aspect at all.

Most do - most are the ravings of paranoid idiots. But in this case, it just seems too perfect.

Now that should set alarm bells ringing ;)
Anyway, slow work day. I started watching it. I have to say, I'm not impress (and slightly annoyed that it took around 10 mins for them to start saying [/i]anything[/i], I'm glad I'm at work so I don't feel like I was cheated of those 10 mins).
Even as far as comparative religion goes, it is hardly impressive. There are far better sources out there.

The given story, I mean, not the CT.

The first ten minutes is an intro, yeah. I didn't really get wow'd till about a half hour into it, and from there I just got sucked farther in.

*shrugs* I've never heard the astrology argument. I knew Horus was -similar- to Jesus, but I didn't know the story fit so closely.

They don't. Though there are snippets of facts (AFAIK) the whole thing to me seems to me to be over-exagerated, simplified, or in a few cases completely made up.

Well this was ages ago,
Anyway gota go, don't want to miss my bus!

Well a 1½hour bus ride isn't the most condusive to rational debate (for me at any rate). Plus I'm doing this from memory.
But I recall those other deity things from a while ago, and iirc many of the whole originally scholarly works are more or less viewed with suspicion (I used to have a great article, but alas, it is lost to the mists of time so I'll need to look for it again :()
This is not to say everything is worthless, just that the narrator was over-egging the pudding with the comparisons. A few of them jumped out, Mithra, Horus & Khrishna, as being terrible simplistic. (Which brings me to something else, I much prefer print arguements with citations, at least that way I can see where somebody got something, I'm especially intrigued about where the idea that the three stars in Orion's Belt being called the three kings comes from, it is mentioned on Wiki, but no source).
Also the whole nativity thing annoyed. AFAIK the belief that Jesus was born on 25th December is fairly modern, due to a misunderstanding that the winter equinox was only the celebration of his birth because we didn't know when he was born and because of the seasons politico-religious significance
Also I'm aware that the southern cross was visible in the mediteranean a long time ago, but I'm not sure if it was still visible c. 4bc - 1ad.
After that. I'm a bit skeptical with the reading of the zodiac thing.
I stopped watching after that. When I have more time I'll rewatch it. It isn't quite as bad as I was expecting.

*smack* The first ten minutes is an intro - basically a shock to get you ready for the next hour and fifty minutes. If you want you can skip it without missing much (unless you're a big fan of George Carlin - they play an audio clip from him).

He's got a 'sources' and 'clarifications' link down at the bottom, below the movie's frame, so scroll down and click if you're interested.

I know. But I'm a busy man and don't have time to trawl through a bibiliography (which may or may not have been padded) to look for specific claims.
Though the fact I see Adventures Unlimited Press (http://store.adventuresunlimitedpress.com/store.lasso?sub=begin) doesn't fill me with confidence.

Yeah, that source seems iffy, but if it's backed by other credible sources, I wouldn't be worried about it.
The main thing in this part that I think needs to be proven is the Horus comparison.

'The neutrality of this article is disputed' - of course.
I dunno. Anyone have a book or personally know a historian that has info on the life of Horus?

Yeah, it's probably not for those with a shortass attention span. :PWhat ass, where?! :p
The thing starts out with nothing but primitive, mindnumbing electronic muzak and crappy animations. Gradually it ups the muzak tempo and shows clips and still of blazing guns and smashed up human remains. After 5 minutes it's still the only thing going on. Given that it's 1. Painful to listen to, 2. Revolting to watch, 3. I'm pretending to work, and 4. It's a vid on the interwebs, I don't really think you can blame me for assuming it'd just keep going on with bloody nonsense for 2 hours.
George Carlin kicks ass though. Made me feel all smug about not owning a TV set.

Indeed. It's got clips from George Carlin and Bill Hicks, two of the three parts of the Holy Trinity of Comedy - the third, of course, being Lenny Bruce.
