Apparently I'm not the only one to have had these problems. About 2 months ago I bought Total War:Rome. About a week ago I got around to installing it. It was supposed to promt me for my CD key. It didn't. No big deal right?WRONG!I played a couple of custom battles and then decided to check out the multiplayer. I put in my player name. Clecked the yes green checkmark and *gasps in anticipation* " Login failed-invalid CD key" OK I have the solution. "CHANGE CD KEY" *heavenly music plays* I put in the CD key on my litlle green card. Click the checkmark. Try the Online Battles. Hourglass shows. *tension builds*..." Login failed-invalid CD key":upyours:! AHA!I have the solution!Take out the dashes(ie: abcd-1234 is now abcd1234). Again the typed, check, online battles, player name,check......" Login failed-invalid CD key"!!!!! D'oh! Unistalled;reinstalled! Same process,A RESULT...of failure! As I said earlier I'm not the only one to have this problem.

The second guy replaced all O's with 0's(zeroes). But he had all caps, and I don't!

Any suggestions?

Actually there is a possibility the printed CD key is incorrect and actually does not work because of a misprint. They sometimes do that.

I don't know what the characters are drawn like on that games keys, but characters that are often ambiguous in game keys are:
i - j
0 - o
5 - s
Q - O

Why, when he bought the game legally, would he need to do that?

Because the one he got legally isn't working, probably because the letters are illegible, and one that is already in the computer can just be copied and pasted, allowing him to access the medium he has a legal right to.

OMG Morpheus?

The problem he's having is with the multiplayer. If he uses someone else's CD key, he's likely to have problems.

Contacting customer service isn't really hard, now, is it?

When Rome was first released there was a major problem with counterfeit copies being sold by some pretty major outlets. It was traced to a dodgy distributor. I wonder if it is the same problem.

I have Rome: Total War and Medieval 2: Total War and I have the same problem with both of them. I guess I've just never cared enough to find a solution. It just goes to show how persistent I am.
