If the USA and other active western forces went back to military isolationism...

...would there be peace? Would there be any danger to the west? How would the east turn out?

It's always all or nothing isn't it?
Isolation is not the key, cooperation is.

Diplomatic cooperation can still occur under isolationism.

Diplomatic cooperation can still occur under isolationism.

Considering that threat still is one of the single most effective tools of diplomacy, diplomacy without a unified military force behind it would be a whole lot less successful. And looking at the state of the world at the moment, it's not exactly the bee's knees even now.

I'm mainly waiting for the people who do support isolationism have to say.

The Western powers would be generally well defended, and capable of providing a credible deterrent against aggression. Without that, though, the likelihood that there would be peace would be minimal. People fight over nearly anything, and I suspect some countries might consider open warfare on their neighbors for territorial aggrandizement. Think India and Pakistan, China and Taiwan, DPRK and ROK, Iran and Iraq, Israel and Syria, Russia and the 'stans, Costa Rica and Andorra. If the West went into isolation some of these hot spots would flare up. As it stands, western military and economic presence serves as a deterrent to conflicts such as these, and is a positive force.

China and Russia would just move in to fill the gap that we left. There won't be peace for as long as people believe that military force is the best way of resolving their problems.

Costa Rica and Andorra, I believe, has no military. Hope that helps a bit.

Nothing beats the classic Mayan-Korean skirmish in Age of Empires II.

We tried Isolationism before and where did that get us? The entire world was being swollowed up by global war not once, but twice, by the time we opened up again. I'd rather fight a series of small wars in unheard of places than let things explode into global war again.

As a "USian" *shivers*, a little more isolation would be great. Perhaps a set limit on how many nations were allowed to "liberate" per decade. We're doing all the work of an empire without any of the perks.

That could never happen the Jewish political lobby has too much at stake keeping us involved with Israel. Not to mention our buisines partners in Saudi Arabia who when they are not killing us make money for our Wall Street boys.
Oil dependence, not to mention if anyone noticed our dollar doesnt use a gold standard anymore its a global or BS standard now which is why it's an inflated piece of %@% now. Take away the global aspect and our economy would die. Were Co dependant now.

Well if we went into a prosperous age of isolationism. Somebody would still be pissed off from when we weren't isolated.
