We have all had the experience of running into an annoying militant atheist. I've had some really colorful insults thrown at me by these type of people. What is your favorite insult you have received from a ignorant militant atheist?

Mine:

I've had an atheist scream in my face 'Anyone that believes in God, or His word, is a mindless fool that needs religion as a crutch because they can't accept reality!' or something like that.

any such encounter I would've had would be here on NSG.

My encounter came from a former friend of mine. She decided that anything christian was ignorant, and attacked me one day, for no reason. I was like wtfudge cakes

YOU SHALL DIE!!! :D Just kidding. I accept all points of view, I may not particuarly like some of them. But I don't hold someones views against them. (Unless they are a Conservative Bushie 'All Muslims Are Terrorists' Amerika Is Holy Dumbass Redneck Republican Christians!) Wow that was a mouthful.

she must've had a reason. maybe she ran into a militant fundie that pushed all her buttons.

if someone did that to me, I'd just calmly reply,

"now what brough that on?" and take it from there. Maybe she just wanted to rant... who knows.

personally, I think an annoying atheist saying you're stupid is better than an annoying Christian who deems that you shall burn for all eternity.

Yes, but unless encountering an image of someone amounts to encountering them (do we "encounter" people we see in photos?), I don't think a mirror is sufficient.

People who are militant about spirituality annoy the heck out of me. I'm sorry folks, but what I believe is up to myself and myself alone, and if you want to tell me why I'm wrong, I'll tell you to stuff it.

I've never called anyone a moron for believing in God, nor would I ever do so. But I've given people who've said that unbelievers or "sinners" are going to Hell a hard time that probably wasn't necessary.

I've never had a militant atheist direct their hatred at me because i'm atheist too, but i've seen it happen, and they make such fools of themselves. No thought behind their arguments whatsoever. Luckily most atheists aren't like this, and those that are normally save their attacks for the more loud mouthed religous types.

If we were all placed in a room with no windows or doors and our memories erased, could you really blame people for believing in something outside of the room? (not saying all atheists don't believe in spiritual stuff), and the same goes for people who only believe in the room, or any other ideas you can come up with.

The most serious insult I ever received was not by someone stating my beliefs, but by someone, just this weekend, attempting to re-write my beliefs with their own.

Wait, aren't the militant of both sides claiming the absolute truth?

In fact doesn't everyone, except maybe the most ridiculously humble of people, claim to know the truth in some form? like saying it's stupid to claim to know the truth, isn't that claiming to know the truth?

Any insults from atheists I've recieved have been on NSG. Extremism of any kind makes me uncomfortable. Whether it be a militant atheist, or a Christian fundamentalist.

And once again, I haven't. And seriously - NOTHING a "militant atheist", whatever the hell that's supposed to be, could say to you is as bad as what religious fundies are saying. Or have you been running into any "Christians Deserve to Die" pickets lately?

I like how you fail to realize how many ignorant and annoying statements religious folk make to atheists.
