Hey guys, well here we are a thread for NS general by me. Some of you if not all of you should know by now that I'm attending Bible College in September, and have just finished writing my support letters.
Now.....
Here is the thing, I was wondering if I should give them a design, a header and footer to make them look not just like a normal letter, but outstanding and worth the cost and time that has gone into the wording.
Sadly I can't come up with any great ideas and so I put it to the NS community to help me with this. I'm asking for people to offer design ideas, examples, anything really to get the inspiration going.
Themes that I am thinking about and the header would include.
Natural scenery - green field or something.
Scotland and Wales. I'm coming from Scotland and going to Wales.
Clouds - Why not?
And anything else that could be considered Christian non-denominational.
I would ask that we keep on topic and don't get into a debate on religion and that we keep the discussion to design.
I look forward to whatever happens. :)

I don't think I understand what you are looking for.....like letterhead for the support letters?
I would go simple but print them on nice linen paper, but that's just me.
Are you male or female?
I can work on some stuff....maybe.

STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST THE USERS OF THE GIMP (http://www.gimp.org)!!!
Sorry, could not resist! I can not help you since I'd manage to somehow make the entire thing subversive. I am just here to wish you good luck!

unless you have some inside information that the admissions committee of your college of choice LUUUUUV fancy looking letters, dont do it.
use a classy but not showy paper and a very readable font. using gimmicks is as likely to work against you as to work for you. more likely.
are you applying to a very select college?

You could go for something inspired by a Biblical verse- An eagle rising on its wings or something like that.
It being an application letter, perhaps something like a path through a forest or a field of grain going across the bottom of the page would look good.
One trick might be to find something within the letter itself that could be turned into a drawing on the margins. That would draw the entire thing together and make the piece look all the more unique.

This is a bit of a silly request, you know. NSG threads tend to naturally fall off topic.

Something simple and clean, but professional looking. A nice, high quality paper, perhaps Linen paper as was suggested earlier. Also, a nice, clean font, set on 1.5 spacing. My choice would be Times New Roman, but that's just me.

That sounds really nice, but I would go for a different font.....

I really like to do my letters in Bookman Old Style, but I am sure that's not as Kosher (pardon the usage) as Times New Roman.
I really think we are right about the linen paper though, it's really nice.

How about using the Computer modern font of LaTeX?

My mistake, I wrote this thread on an idea of inspiration last night, when I was very tired. The title even has a spelling error.
Anyway, I will try to be more specific. I have been accepted into college. I am writing support letters to family and friends and other churches around Glasgow to see if they would like to help me achieve my goal.
The letters are for support not an application, and so I just need them to get the attention, appear as though effort has gone into them and not look like a randomly generated spam.
But sadly, right now I'm lacking in ideas.
I am going for linen paper.
I will choose the old bookman font
Many thanks so far ladies and gents.

that sounds really nice. As far as letterhead, you might choose a pretty border line......put your name at the top of it, and then do a standard business after
http://www.stcloudstate.edu/ucomm/images/styleguide/letterhead.gif
something like that with your own info, put your favorite Bible verse at the end (assuming it's an appropriate verse)

i still dont understand what these letters are. are you writing to get them to send you money?
can you give us a general idea of what you say in it? content matters when choosing a header.
