Giving the Native Americans their land back today is problematic. They need to be treated as equal members of society who are free to make their own decisions, and the government needs to learn from their mistake with the Native Americans from the previous four centuries.

Frankly, I feel that we should arm them with the latest weaponry available and turn them loose to conquer some small third world country.

Since the statute of limitations is up, and since Natives have all the rights as everyone else: I think we should do away with the BIA and all of the special privileges. All citizens should from here on be treated equally.

Well, my parents were born here in the US, and so was I. Therefore, we're native Americans. If your government is reading this thread, now they know. :D

I have a Native American ancestor who I got 1/16th of my genes from, which would probably make me Native American enough to live on a reservation tax-free if I wanted to. Of course, I couldn't vote unless I while enjoying the tax-free privilages and I'm probably white enough for people to want me to fell guilty about what "my people" did to "my other people". I'm the son of immigrants, so I can't feel too guilty. No ancestors killing mah Native American ancestors.

Redistribution like that is wrong. If the native americans deserve to be repaid for "damages", then so do the African Americans, women, homosexuals, Jews (the Holocaust is only a recent example of the millennia of persecution they faced), etc. You're going to have governments without money or land for things like roads, Euro-style national healthcare, welfare, defending the citizens, which includes paying firemen, police officers, soldiers (countries have been invaded lots of times. Hell, World War II started because of invasions), etc.
