consumer whore-dom
So... did anyone make any recent purchases they'd like to discuss?
I went out and bought the following today:
Let it Die - Feist (CD)
On Liberty/The Subjection of Women - John Stuart Mill
Antic Hay - Aldous Huxley
A Modern Utopia - H.G. Wells
I also got roped into donating $30 a month to Amnesty International...
...all of which I can barely afford.
Jebus I could buy a whole small pizza for that.

I bought two slices of cheese & sausage pizza and a medium Coke at the downtown (Nashville) Sbarro for lunch.
Total bill (including tax):
$9.39
Bringing back half of a slice and turning down a hungry (nemesis) coworker who wanted to eat said half-slice:
Priceless.
That seems pretty steep for two slices of pizza.

Yeah, those are some expensive pizza slices... there's a place around here that sells a large 4 topping pizza for $9.99.
Although due to time-warping, your comment makes little sense if read in the thread order :P
I plan to purchase a soda to sneak into the movie tonight......if I can talk my 4 year old down on the interest, she wants to loan me $2 for 2 days and charge $1 interest.
Seriously?! Wow. My parents (well, mostly my mom) used to just take money from my allowence jar and replace it with IOUs.

You don't have to sneak it in. Just buy a soda that they don't sell at the movie theater, then complain loudly when they stop you. Works every time.

My total non-necessity expenditures for the past three months amounted to a magazine subscription to The Economist, a contribution to Ron Paul's campaign, and 2 PC games. I never buy food that is already prepared; it is more expensive and I don't trust snotty teenagers to handle it properly.

I bought the Dread-Camry of Eternal Peril earlier this summer, I paid $3,500 for it and it runs beautifully.
Since then, I've spent roughly $100 on food, books, beer and...uh...that's about it.
Although I fully intend to save $17.99 by reading my sisters copy of Harry Potter, instead of buying my own.
You don't have to sneak it in. Just buy a soda that they don't sell at the movie theater, then complain loudly when they stop you. Works every time.
Bah, the ushers in your movie theater must be a bunch of scared little kids or something. Where I work, stuff like that wont work at all. We even have a fridge and freezer so if someone tries to bring in refrigerated stuff (like a soda), we can hold it for them.
We also spend a lot of time chasing out old ladies who are trying to theater jump (to be fair though, its an indie theater where 100% of the crooks are old ladies.)
On topic though, I recently bought 25 dollars worth of food at the grocery. I feel pretty good about it.
I bought a thing that will allow me to broadcast my iPod on the FM range, so I can listen to it in the car without paying $400.
I also bought SATA cables so I could hook up the two new HDD's (500GiB) I bought.
That's really about it besides food...

I bought some fresh local honey (our bees aren't suicidal yet) at Pike Place Market, along with some smoked Yukon River king salmon. You drizzle the former on the latter as the latter grills, and you, my friend, are in fish heaven. I'm in Seattle visiting my parents and friends during the summer, and I have as much salmon as I can (like a bear!) because they only get farmed Atlantic salmon in NoDak, and that's heresy.

Nope.
Here in Venezuela, a full tank of gas is worth around 3300 bolívares for my car. For a SUV, perhaps 4000 bolívares.
A dollar, according to the regulations of the goverment, is worth 2500 bolívares more or less, but the normal way you can find dollars, it costs more or less 4000 bolívares, so a full tank is worth a dollar.
And no, I have plenty of places to drive, including several of the best beaches of the world. Try googling "Parque Nacional Morrocoy" to see pictures of where I went.

Good grief, I can get an 11" Pizza for £1.50 - about $3.
There's cheap pizza here too -- this was pretty good, loaded with cheese and big chunks of sausage. I was full when I left.
In comparison, I go to the "Chinese" buffet most of the time, eat three full plates of food, spend $10 and leave equally stuffed.
I might not have made myself clear, so I'll be more specific:
The arc (crust) of an average slice of pizza at that place measures about 8-9 inches -- HUGE slices, probably the size of about one-third of a medium pizza.
Thre aren't that many pizza deals in Nashville aside from the usual chain coupons that come in the mail.
Probably the best deal i've seen recently (of which I've taken advantage) was the $10.99 large any way you want it from Pizza Hut.
Having lived in Chicago, the Nashville pizza scene is dire.

That trip to Morrocoy last weekend consumed a full tank of gas, and was about 400 kilometers at...an average of 100 kph. Usually I never let the tank drop to empty, but refill it once it reaches the middle mark, and that half of a tank usually lasts three or four days of nomral use, that means going to first office, then second office, then home.
Giving the differences between measure systems, it is indeed difficult to compare.

Oh, depends on the job. You can always throw a mantle on the street and sell either burned pirate copies of movies, musical records or videogames, or smuggled colombian clothes and make a living. Lots of people are resourcing to that lately. Putting a sign of "Taxi" in your car also helps.
Regarding professional opportunities, it depends on your branch of work. Lately we have an awesome expansion of the public sector, but you need to be a national to get benefit of that. The private sector is right now in recession, so finding a job in some company or enterprise is not easy right now.
We have Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, and some others, and also traditional italian restaurants attended by their own owners, true italian inmigrants and chefs. I have been in Italy, and some of our own restaurants are as good as the ones in Milan or Florence.
I hope that helped a bit.
