What is the most weight you could bench? Ever?

I'm just curious.

What do you mean by "could?" As in "could, if I tried right now," or lifetime personal best?

taking 'could' to mean past tense, it's 190kg.
'could' to mean now, prob around 150/160kg. though I have started a new strength building programme this week just gone. Here's hoping it works!

Ah, well I mean could ever.

So I guess the most accurate would be lifetime personal best.:)

Likely somewhere between bugger all and bugger all.

Then again, I've never really had much in the way of physical strength.

you know, I work out 3x a week, and have never done a proper bench (lack of a work out buddy is a bitch). I know I could do my body weight easy....anything above, I've yet to try.

The most I've ever benchpressed was a hair short of 300 lbs. Of course, I only *weighed* a little more than half of that at the time, so I thought I did well for myself.

Today, I'm not sure. I use the freeweights I have lying around on a regular basis, but aside from push-ups, I don't do those kind of exercises.

Somewhere around 300 ... I dont do proper work outs

When you do farm work you dont seem to have the time to go lift heavy things on your free time

Got plenty of that "on" the clock

I did some bench pressing in PE, and it was about 45 pounds. Not so much I guess.

Well, the bar itself is usually 45 lbs. So that's 90, at least. :)

Really? Then again, the 50 pound rice bags I had to carry into the house was alot easier than the bench press.

Not very much as I worked out alone most of the time and stability becomes a matter of injury with higher weights. Around 90kg with me weighing in at 78. In a smithmachine though, I pushed it up to 120 but that doesn't really count.

The most weight I ever benchpressed is as an insignificant number as the times I have scratched my backside. I've seen men who can press over 400lbs get thrown to the ground like ragdolls. Conversely, I have seen men who press less than 200lbs shatter an orbital bone with one open-hand strike.

Eh. I don't think anyone's suggesting that weightlifting makes you indestructible. ;) Having size on your opponent's always going to help though, if you want to talk about martial arts, or whatever.

Proper bench: ~130 lbs.
Incline machine: 200 lbs. (as high as it goes)

I weigh about 165.

Who said this has to do with fighting ... strength can be more useful then in a fight.

I don't think I could bench press anything... the heaviest thing I can lift (my backpack) usually weighs about 20-25 pounds, and towards the end of the year that goes up to about 35 because the yearbook itself weighs about 10 pounds. Then again I only weigh about 110 pounds...

I'm just curious.

Currently, I can bench 340 for a single rep.

I usually end my workout on upper body day with a final set of 10 reps at 280, then get up and do pullups to stretch myself out.

I've lifted my dad and my mum simultaneosly (while I was standing), so I know I can lift at least about 180 kg (kgf to be accurate). Never tried on a bench.

It depends on the size of the bench and it's structural integrity and how much the person weighs relative to their size...

Once or reps?

I don't lift that often so the highest I pushed myself was 197 pounds, and that was about two years ago. I might be able to do more I think...

The lift I fear is the squat.

I'm 46 now, and although I'm in the best shape I've been in my life, I was told that no matter how much I work out, the lower abdominals are just not as resilient as they were when I was young.

One squat at too high a weight, and I'll be wearing my intestines inside my scrotum.

The lift I dread though is the dead lifts. Can't stand them

Cleans and the like? I love them. Wish I had more chances to get into a weightroom to do them. As far as bench goes, if I worked on upper body strength, the best I could probably do would likely be around 225-250 for a single-rep max. Never really focused on chest, though - skiing doesn't require much pectoral work. Leg press, though... heh.

Well as all the keep-fit types are gathered on this thread I might as well use the opportunity to ask a silly question:

I'm currently trying to build some muscle, both to lose weight and to increase my strength (improved appearance is a bonus :p). Is it better to do lots of low-weight lifts or a few heavier-weight lifts? Currently I tend to do three sets of ten repetitions.

At 140 lbs. I can do one rep of 220 lbs. My max around this time last year was around 160-ish, so I expect that I can still get a good bit stronger.

Well in HS I was able to easily bench .. the weird angle bench (not straight up) .. forgot the name .. 80. Most of the girls couldn't. I weighed 115 then. Doesn't sound like much, but I was not training for it etc. It was just a 'test' to see things.

I believe slight weight lifting is good for you, especially women.. it can help against and reverse osteoporosis in some cases.

Eh. Most of us, I think, have been answering from memory, rather than as advocates of fitness or weightlifting. :p As to the question, I'm not sure - I just did what everyone else did when I took weightlifting in high school and hoped for the best. ;)

315lbs, but right now I'd be lucky if I put up 250lbs.

Benchpress or solely for impressing chicks though. Outside of that it really isn't that great of a workout. Dumbell press is much better.

I'm pretty weak. I can do maybe 100, but that's it.

Leg presses though? I got monster legs.....I can do like 230......but you should keep in mind that I am a short little girl......barely 5 feet tall.

Barely anything. I go to the gym for one reason alone; to look good, hence big muscles really are not a necessity as much as definition.

I weigh about 120 pounds and last time I tried it (back in my senior year of high school) my max can't have been more than 105. Pretty strong legs for my size, but a weak and scrawny upper body.

Bench? Probably around 80 kg(~176 lbs) or so, which is a little over my current bodyweight of about 65. If we're talking leg-press, I can do about 400lbs(that was more or less the maximum on the machine) for a couple of reps.:p

If we're talking leg power I'd say I'm the god around here. *flexes butt muscles*

Leg press- I don't know well over 800lbs
Squat - 570lbs
