This sounds like it could complicate things for those nations of the northern hemisphere. Wouldn't it be interesting to see how Europe and Canada react?

Russia claiming the whole north pole is part of the territory of Russia. What are the chances of a standoff or even a shooting war?

"Late last month, Moscow signaled its intentions to annex the entire North Pole"

Russian geologists say they have data that would support a claim to about 1.2m sq km (463,000 sq miles) of energy-rich territory in the Arctic.

"An expedition of 50 scientists that spent 45 days aboard the Rossia nuclear ice-breaker found that an underwater ridge (the Lomonosov ridge) directly links Russia's Arctic coast to the North Pole. "

"Russia's first attempt to expand beyond its Arctic zone was rebuffed by the U.N. Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, but Moscow hopes that its "latest scientific findings" will produce a different outcome when the Commission next meets, in 2009."

"The North Pole isn't the only prize in the eyes of the resurgent Russian empire — Moscow is also looking to restore control over a 47,000 sq. km (18,000 sq. mile) piece of the Bering Sea separating Alaska from Russian Chukotka. The territory was ceded to the U.S. in 1990 under the U.S.-Soviet Maritime Boundary Agreement signed by Secretary of State James Baker and Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze."

"Meanwhile, on the morning of January 7 this year, the rotor blades of a Russian Mi-8 helicopter shattered the divine silence at the opposite end of the Earth, disgorging a group of top Russian dignitaries led by none other than FSB (the former KGB) Director Nikolai Patrushev, to proudly raised the Russian flag over the South Pole."

I know it for a fact that neither of the aforementioned Poles filled in the proper paperwork to have their citizenship revoked, so they are still Polish. Although they never voted and as far as I know never served, so maybe they arent very good Poles. Also, I never saw any of them in the church on Sunday. But we are tolerant.
I only hope they keep behaving, it would be terrible if they gave our country bad reputation. After all they are the most famous Poles, even wider recognized in the world than the previous pope and Lech Walesa.

Main article: Space law
Although several flags of the Soviet Union (scattered by Luna 2 in 1959 and by later landing missions) and the United States have been symbolically planted on the Moon, no nation currently claims ownership of any part of the Moon's surface. Russia and the US are party to the Outer Space Treaty, which places the Moon under the same jurisdiction as international waters (res communis). This treaty also restricts the use of the Moon to peaceful purposes, explicitly banning military installations and weapons of mass destruction (including nuclear weapons).[63]

There is a heck of a lot of oil still untapped in the Arctic and all 5 circumpolar nations want it. Also Americans tell your government to stop drawing funny lines in the water, the border between the Yukon and Alaska is straight not squiggly.

One more issue for Canada to deal with. First Americans travelling through the NorthWest passage without notifying Canada, unconfirmed reports of both American and Russia nuclear subs in our waters and the ongoing turf battle with the danes about the puny piece of rock called Hans Island.
