Yep, you read it correctly. Seems New Zealand is considering offering college courses about prostitution. I haven't a clue what curriculum such coursed may fit but...I can come up with a few and suggested titles:

Business: The ins and outs of profits in prostitution.
Sociology: The psychological impact of prostitution on customers. Lab required.
Psychology: What drives men and women into prostitution? Lab required.
Education: The effects of prostitution on the learning process.
Medicine: Methods to prevent STD when using prostitutes services. Lab required.
Nursing: The medical therapeutic effect of prostitutes on the healing process.

Now it is your turn to suggest courses. I think we can leave required labs to the imagination…but…then…

The article just says that if some institution would want to provide such a course, then TEC wouldn't a priori dismiss it, but based on objective ("agnostic") criteria decide whether to give funding or not.

Edit: On a more serious note, part of the French Revolution course I took last year was a brief study of Parisian prostitutes. Historically, and in terms of social ramifications, I think it'd be a great course.

Well, if you look at ancient societies, prostitution could be a very respectable profession indeed. Take the Greek Hetaera, for example, or temple prostitutes in biblical Israel. In more recent history, look at Madame de Pompadour or Nell Gwyn. They never were overlords as such, but they could have tremendous influence on politics and society.
