BRAINTREE, Mass. - It looked like a textbook training exercise, but there was something amiss.

Firefighters drove to a vacant house on Tuesday, cut holes in the roof and walls, and broke windows to test their tools and their proficiency.

The problem? It was the wrong house.

They were supposed to be two blocks away at a house slated for demolition.

Well, at least they got some training out of it. I suppose they're lucky that the fire department didn't set it on fire first. Around here, when the fire department "practices" on a house, they set it on fire so that they can also practice using the hoses and the rest of the fire equipment.

Makes the job easier for the demolition crew as well. I guess the training budget will take a hit here.

On the plus side, at least it wasn't cops with one of them no-knock warrants that got the wrong house.

Must've been a pretty shabby house.

"What the hell!!!"

"I'm sorry, sir. I thought it was condemned."

"Dammit. I knew I should have mowed the lawn!"

In Massachusetts? I didn't know there were any Billy Bobs above the Mason-Dixon line.

Firefighters are supported through federal funds? Since when?

Don't you pay state and local taxes?

yes, and so "your tax dollars at work" applies to me, as I live in MA. However, iirc, you aren't from MA or Braintree, nor are most people on this forum...

Also, most fire departments receive an allocation from Federal funds, under many guises.

The most prominent example would be "Homeland Security".

Thanks for screwing it up.

I would also like to know when firefighters started getting federal funds, as would all of the fire departments around here no doubt...

Google these words together:

firefighters federal funds

Apparently, your Senator or Congressman has to bring home the pork...

And that's the general program, if your Senator or Congressman doesn't have the pork
