Sick 9-11 workers sue B insurance fund

The US can spend hundreds of Billions of dollars for failing foreign policy in Afghanistan and Iraq but ignores the ongoing health concerns of victims of 9-11 in New York (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070717/ap_on_re_us/attacks_health). Another black mark for the Bush led Republican party that has failed once again:

"The WTC Captive has consistently refused to pay any of the ground zero workers who have become ill on the work site, including any compensation" for lost salaries, pain and suffering, medical treatment, medical monitoring or burial expenses, according to the lawsuit, filed in state Supreme Court in Manhattan.

It was filed by attorneys representing thousands who became ill after working to clean up the site while breathing toxic trade center dust, including more than 100 who have died.
"She hasn't paid a penny to one of my 10,000 people," David Worby, an attorney representing the workers, said of the company's CEO, Christine LaSala. "It was their mandate."

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who was named in the suit along with LaSala and board members, said Tuesday that attorneys are wrong about the company's structure.

"They just don't know the facts. The truth of the matter is, Congress didn't set up a victims' compensation fund," the mayor said. "We'd like them to do that, we've asked for that; they set up a captive insurance company. And the insurance company can only pay out monies if somebody sues us in court and wins a judgment against us."
The last bolded part blows me away.

You know, I'm just waiting for some Bushevik to explain how this is a good thing.

Sad thing is, it shouldn't be long.

As well, as if we needed further proof that Neo Cons are absolutely despicable, we have this.

You know, for a group of people who claim "Don't forget 9/11", they seem to have long forgotten the victims of 9/11.

Their silence in this thread speaks volumes!!

An old adage goes something like this:

"Talk is cheap, it takes money to buy whiskey."

I can't believe people are suing for the honour of dying for their country. they must be left-wing commie liberals.

I would have helped clean up but for medical reasons, a gimpy toe that, coincidentally, didn't make me eligible for Vietnam either.

Anyway, I'm off to offer an undercover policeman some money to give me a blowjob but first I need to sign this bill banning gays from getting an education.

This is like the American "downsizing" of the Army, in that it seems that expenditure on people = bad, expenditure on shiny gadgets (that cost billions in R&D and are manafactured by companies not without strong political links)=very good indeed, thank you. As it seems to be going on for quite a while, it must be some cultural thing......

They won't be claiming it is a good thing - they will be attacking the firemen and liberals for following a culture of litigation and getting lawyers involved when they just should've sat back and took it.

I am planning to see the movie. Did you see it? If so, was it good?

I don't get it....when Bush was standing on that mound of rubble, he was at the peak of his approval rating. He failed to build upon that goodwill and the American people are starting to wake up. All I can ask is WHY???????

Because hes a figurehead and idiot, led along by a political clique that saw the event as an ooportunity to launch a long held design. You might say it was "Cheny-ed". "Dicked" even. The project for a new American calamity...
