Yeah, the rumor is that it's a movie called...well I forgot...Cloverfield, I think thats it.

But it's a monster movie (the monster the believe is called 'the parasite,' kind of like 'The Host' I guess...), like giant monster (Godzilla style), but it's filmed entirely by hand camcoders, the whole narrative is pieced together by peoples home videos of the event.

Which actually seems kinda bad ass.

It's a rip-off of Chrono Trigger because the parasite resembles Lavos in many ways.

...

Not that I would know first hand because the trailer STILL crashes my browser. Doesn't anyone have a Youtube link to the trailer or something?

You can't actually see the monster, you just see a big ball of fire, which I don't think is the monster itself.

Did that guy make a video out of a forum post? And then called himself a director? What has YouTube wrought...

Anyway, this is where wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethan_Haas_Was_Right) stands on it all-
Cloverfield connection

Many have speculated that EHWR is connected to the Paramount-produced movie known by the production name of "Cloverfield". This claim is currently unauthenticated, but is supported by the similar themes of the ARG and the trailer; as well, Paramount has removed videos of the Cloverfield trailer, as well as videos concerning EHWR, suggesting that they have legal rights to both, and leading many ARG players to believe the two are connected. This, however, could be due to the fact that many Van Mantra videos were labeled as "Cloverfield Video" or "Ethan Haas-Cloverfield", making it probable that You Tube merely removed the videos due to the them simply containing the term "Cloverfield" somewhere on the video page. In an e-mail to aintitcool.com (purportedly from Cloverfield producer J.J. Abrams), a connection between Cloverfield and Ethan Haas is denied.[5]

[edit] Alpha-Omega connection

On July 11, 2007 Wraith, a former writer for the now-defunct Total Gamer News, presented a theory (along with the following image supporting his claim) that Ethan Haas is a promo for the Mindstorm Labs game Alpha-Omega. If you finish all the puzzles at www.ethanhaaswasright.com, you can see the city in the background is badly wrecked, and if you look about an inch from the left, you can faintly see a similar image (including the tank) from the Alpha-Omega site.
If you look about an inch from the left, you can faintly see a smiliar image (including the tank) from the Alpha-Omega site.
If you look about an inch from the left, you can faintly see a smiliar image (including the tank) from the Alpha-Omega site.

Although not conclusive evidence of a connection, the solution for puzzle #5 "The beginning is the end" appears to be a slight variation on the biblical Alpha and Omega "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end." (Revelations 22:13)

The connection is further supported by OMG WTF EHWR?! which traced the Domain registration to the offices of Mind Storm Labs, who are producing Alpha Omega.
The domain thing seems pretty clear to me.

You're not alone. The leading theories I've seen are:
Lost movie
Godzilla movie (there are several reasons it isn't)
Cthulhu movie (I have seen nothing but wishful thinking to support this)
Based on [insert whatever Japanese movie you think it is "ripping off"].

And seriously, people on IMDb are total dicks. Have you ever read through their forums? My god what a collection of assholes.

What if it isn't a monster at all?

Not likely I know, especially after watching the trailer, but when I first watched it, I thought the film may just be a giant red herring. A natural disaster of some sort (albeit a natural disaster that can lob Miss Liberty's head through NY :p) that plays upon the paranoia of Americans in general and New Yorkers in particular, post-9/11.

Unlikely, sure, but a neat idea methinks.

A collection of assholes who wouldn't know a good film if Ethan & Joel Coen dropped it on them from a great height.

That's the problem with mystery hype, sometimes your theory turns out to be cooler than what really happens.

Even if you hadn't posted your thoughts earlier, I would've still thought that it was a knockoff of Lavos.

I mean, come on. The massive ball of fire, the ridiculously loud roar, and the fireballs raining down from the sky and bringing the world below to ruin? It's the same damn thing, but this movie's monster probably doesn't resemble and urchin the size of the Metrodome. And it's probably not quite as powerful, though the trailer stopped before we could see any real destruction... If there is any on such a scale.

That's why Lavos is the ultimate end-boss. Nobody is quite sure of its intentions (it's just an alien life form in a massive life support battle suit), and it has the ability to scorch an entire planet in less than five minutes.
