I wonder if you will be wandering anywhere this summer, or winter, depending on where you are.. or traveling to.. Will/Have you do/done anything this summer, or are you, like my brother, starting a new job and cannot take any time off?
We finally decided on what we're doing this summer.
In August, I will be going to Washington DC for 3 days doing the usual tourist stuff. Visiting the White House, going to museums. Then I'm off to Ocean City MD to a beachfront hotel room with no plans other than sitting on the beach for 3 or 4 days.

Sounds fun.
I just started an internship for a General Contractor, and this construction firm apparently only will give me 2 whole paid vacation days next year. :(
But I'll probably be leaving for a couple of weeks in August. Nothing outside of California, but out-of-city is fine as well.

No, the people who insist it's "Holiday" spelled "fiend" wrong.

I never go on holidation (or is it vacoliday?) during the summer. I wait until the weather turns "nasty", and then go to places like Scotland or Ireland, to enjoy being one of the few mad enough to climb Ben Nevis or Carrantuohil in October.
Yes, I like cold, windy and rainy. :)
I went to Martha's Vineyard, then to the beach in New Hampshire (almost an oxymoron, isn't it?). And in two weeks, I'm going to Block Island. On top of that, I go boating in the Long Island Sound every weekend. I love living in Connecticut.

Can I go to Block Island with you?

Of course! Just be prepared to pay for an insanely expensive hotel. There's a reason we anchor in the bay, and it's not because we enjoy showering in a public bathhouse.

Only if you enjoy sleeping outside on the deck. It's not a big boat you see...

Will you provide alcohol and lobster?
Only if you provide me with a fake i.d. and lobster license. I'm not buying one of those fuckers. I'd much rather dive to get them.

Damn it on both counts!
Fine, we'll crash a clam bake.

New England myth #1!
New England beaches are full of clam bakes.
Nope, in fact, quite the opposite. The only clambakes in this age are put on by super-expensive lobster shacks (not an oxymoron!), and are incredibly rare, and only bought by stupid rich people. A real New Englander would fork out 50 bucks for a 8 pound lobster, go clamming without a license, and steam them in a large pot.

But.. when I was in Mystic.. I saw.. dozens!

Put on by the ridiculously expensive lobster shack in the area (Abbots!) and ordered by stupid rich people!
I've actually never seen one, and you'll never see one in Block Island. They're too much work. I've heard a story where the hole wasn't deep enough and the coals not hot enough, so the lobsters climbed out.

Since you seem to know a bit about lobster, lemme ask:
Does an older lobster taste... worse than a younger, smaller one?

Ah, the famed Hindu Mystic lobsters - how they walk on coals is amazing.

Very young lobsters taste the best. Like, a pound to a pound and an eighth is as good as you can get. But they aren't really worth the money. Once a lobster gets past a pound and a half, they really taste all the same. It's not as good as a young lobster, but it's not bad in any respect. Saying an older lobster tastes a lot worse than a younger lobster is almost like saying Fanta brand grape soda tastes much better than Sams Choice. The difference is there, but it's miniscule. Thats why I go for the 8 pounders now. Not only do you get the most amount of meat for the money you spend, but one lobster will feed two, easily. Not to mention the fact that the claws are massive, and even the legs provide a sizable amount of meat.
Whatever you do, don't get it from a supermarket if you can help it. And if you do, go to Shaws.
My vacation is over now :(
Back to work for me...

I went to Great Yarmouth for five days with my girlfriend. We walked on the pier, went to the Pleasure Beach and strolled along the prom with ice-cream and candyfloss.

In June I went to Belgium for a metal festival - got to do some sightseeing in Belgium, France and the Netherlands while we were there.
Sometime in September/October I'm going over to South Africa for a few weeks to visit lions and monkeys and things. Oh, and family.

I'm going to Michigan early in August for a cousin's wedding. I think we're leaving on August 2nd and coming back on August 7th. School starts again on August 20th, and they're changing our schedule in some strange way...
