So, my question today is, will the USA ever have a decent cricket team that can competitively compete in a world capacity against the poms, India and my own country? But I guess my country goes further to, will cricket ever become more popular in the US?

Question one: no.

Question two: not no, but hell no. Though with an influx of Pakistani immigrants, I could imagine a slight uptick in interest among that select community.

God, I hope not. :p

I'm not sure how many people it takes to form a cricket team, but you could probably find a few out of the few hundred million people here that might have some talent for the game. I doubt it would be popular, though. ;)

It's an unfortunate no to both questions, although if I were feeling cynical I'd say anyone could beat England at the moment.

And I hope not too; I'm not sure England could face the humiliation of being beaten by yet another colony at our own game. :p

The only crickets that matter are the ones that play their songs at night.

There is no cricket sport, and if there was, it couldn't compete with Professional Wrestling, MLB, Golf, Baseball, Basketball, NASCAR, or even Rollerjam.

I think there are quite a lot of teams in the USA, actually. Given the size of the population, it's not surprising that you can find even just a few hundred people who are interested in the game.

A few hundred people spread out across the country is pretty irrelevant.

Oh, of course it is, but I remember doing a search once for US teams and being surprised at how many they were. Small amateur teams are never going to win the World Cup, nor are they ever going to make it into a big sport over there, but they do exist.

Cricket isn't the US's thing. We got baseball. So, no, it will never muster enough among the crowd to form a competitive team.

No, the American public only like team sports where they face no effective competition.

We have a good test side, thank you very much....:D

Those heathen forms of cricket don't count, what!

I was watching the England "Lions" against India on Saturday at Chelmsford, and all things considered, we seem well set for the future. Broad and Bresnan could be awesome in two years or so.

Nonsense! ...now remind me, how many runs do we get for hitting the wooden thingies?

Why should we? There is basically no interest in cricket among the US populace.

You'd have far better luck getting us to play soccer well. Actually, getting our men to play it well, last I checked our women's teams aren't half bad.

I presume you mean the stumps. You wouldn't get any runs from them, you would get the opposing batsman out, which would bring an opposing batsman in. When the opposing team is all out, you go in, and then come out to take your place in. They then try to get you out, which is when you go back in, until you are all out.

You're giving me a headache. And you people fit 4 innings into 5 days!!! We fit 9 into 1 day, more fun.

The reason we are no good at cricket is because all the best athletes play other sports. Basketball, Baseball and Football are so big, there are many many many players playing. And then when you count all our second tier sports, there just isn't enough room for another national sport. I mean we fit in soccer and we don't even like it, so Cricket doesn't have a chance.

The US has quite a lot of cricket teams around the country, but the vast majority are made up of south asian/west indian expats as far as I'm aware. The US team that went to the ICC champions trophy before their national association fell apart only had one US born member in it.

I've watched Cricket in my time over in London and Paris, and I still don't get the game. I've watched it for hours on end, and I....just...don't...get....it.

Lord, how many times have I heard that sentiment from a English cricket supporter?
Seems like you lot spend your lives going on about the 'next big player' who 'will be awesome in a year or two'.
