Are you going to see the Simpsons Movie?

So anyone here going to see the Simpsons Movie?

I think we have all agreed that the recent episodes aren't funny, or even remotely funny for that matter.

Anyway, after seeing some commercials for the movie, they seem to be on par with the recent Simpsons opposed to the old ones that were actually funny.

I for one will not see the movie. Hopefully it will cause The Simpsons to kill itself off, thus cutting off the flow of bad episodes that plague the good old re-runs.

No, actually.

I don't know, I'm worried it will bomb and will tarnish the series, which even if it is still decent has declined fairly far from its peak. I want the series to go out on a good note, not a bad one...

But at least Futurama is coming back, so maybe there is still hope.

I sort of got the feeling that that's what they really wanted to be making. Partially contributing to the decline in quality. (though I haven't seen any of the really new ones).

If I had to pinpoint an exact spot, I'd say the season opener where Homer goes to New York was the beginning of the end - thinngs just went downhill from there. That would've been around '98. Still an impressive run though, '87 to '98.

Yes, I will, and though some of the recent seasons have been a bit derivative (unsurprising after so many), I expect the movie to be worth the wait. In my view, The Simpsons still pwns virtually any other show on air.

I only vaguely remember that one. Couldn't really say, but beyond that one and the one fragmented episode devoted to Poe, I don't recall any other referrences to him. I'd say the show is somewhat friendly to (moderate) religion - but religion and political conservatism aren't the same. ;)

Amen, brother. All the things I found funny about The Simpsons is still there, really. I never found them 'shocking' or 'outragious,' just smartly written and the little things that make me laugh ("There's no air in space." "There's an Air and Space Museum!" or Grandpa Simpson and Mr. Burns' anachranisms, the borderline Edithness of Marge, the balance between the literal and fantastic in the way they approach the jokes. All the things I like are still there, I don't need Homer jumping a canyon for it to still be funny (Though that is one of my favorite episodes)

The new episodes are different. They don't have a good consistent plot, but you can still laugh at the humour and satire. However the old episodes were better because the plot was funny, where as today the plot is irellavent and it's more about squeezing as many jokes in as possible.

In my opinion, The Simpsons (Movie) should've been a chronicle, and not just an extended episode. I'm talking a chronicle of Abe Simpson from his younger years to the present Simpson family, and how everybody came to know each other and why the people are the way they are. You know, a little thing called tying up the loose ends with an all-encompassing plot.

Though I guess people can't always be expected to do the right thing. The right thing in this instance being the making of a decent film. Now, if the trailers are wholly misleading and the movie is actually just like what I described, I'll be impressed.

I'm dreading this movie. The series should have died years ago, and they just keep squeezing every ounce of life out of it, until now it's a cartoon body-snatcher version of itself; it's a caricature of what it used to be. It just plain ol' sucks.

They aren't changing with the times fast enough though.

I'd actually say that they're changing too much. For instance, I think that here's what happened to the Simpsons:
1. Someone realized that Family Guy was pretty popular.
2. The writers of the Simpsons decided to try emulate Family Guy.
3. They aren't good at it.

The Simpsons episodes from 10 years ago are still great, even now.
