Hmm, for $1 billion Zimbabwe dollars (apparently worth $4 million USD), I'd buy a house (monolithic dome), buy the truck I want (new Silverado 4X4), use about $500k to start a business flipping (buying, fixing up, then selling) distressed properties, and distribute the rest to my family (pay off the last 9 years on my parent's house, put money into trust for my nieces and nephew for college, etc).

Brother in SC 50k. Dad .. well he'd have what I have .. completely open. But if I must give him a number 1 Million.

I love these questions btw. I picture myself at sometime having this money and knowing exactly what I'm going to do with it.

As for buying land .. buying/building a home.. etc.. that is a given. But my main priority is setting my ppl up and setting myself up for the future. The rest is just fun.

THe currency will go UP after the price cuts eventually. Also there are better currencies to invest in than USD it's been deflating in value (going down comparitively) for a long time now.

Turn it into USD. It may not be the best currency going, but it's the one I'm familiar with, and the one I can spend everywhere I'm likely to be. I can always do some smaller exchanges for travelling if I need to.

Set aside enough for a *very* comfortable retirement, which would start immediately.

Unless, they revalued it again (which is likely), a US dollar is worth about 300,000 zimbabwe dollars -- abotu three times as much as a month ago, and about a whopping 750 times as much as last year!

Therefore the very first thing I would do if I had a billion zimbabwe dollars would be to convert it to US dollars.

i've always had a hankering to build environmentally harmonious transportation and energy infrastructure. of course, it's THEIR money, so i'd want to do it in their country, for them, to serve THEIR needs, wants and interest, as expressed by themselves, by a random sampling of preferences, from within all levels of their own society. schools, hospitals and parks and libraries too. all of that, however far it could be stretched with maximal harmonious and sustainble utilization of their local resources. and zero imposition of further indebtedness to them, either as a country or to anyone a citizen of it.

but i'd start out with just transportation and the energy to run it, since that is what i'm most interested, and somewhere near semi-knowledgable in and about.

a chance to demonstrate my dreams of clean energy narrow gauge railways and similar concepts. and none of this bussiness of dragging everybody into debt to import everything either. i'm sure anyplace and everyplace there is more then sufficient local knowledge and talant to do and manage everything that needs to be done. my only roll really, well most of it, would be seeing to it this is what gets done with it. that and having fun with the engineering and planning. maybe even taking a few classes from them, the locals, and getting my hands in a bit of the welding and machining and even the most manual end of getting things done, as well as the planing and coordinating of it.

i'm not sure how much we could get done with any particular given amount. and undoubtedly many vested intrests would oppose any of this being done.

but dam, if it was up to me, and there was anything i could actually do about it, this is something i would sure like to try. zimbabwe, nepal, p.n.g., anyplace that's just not had the opportunities and or has been getting screwed out of them for the past century or two.

Actually, the rate on XE may be the official rate, but in Zimbabwe, the black market rate--which is probably the only rate--is at least 250000$ZW per USD. Especially when you can see how they want to revalue the currency.
