What is it with Florida and the GOP??

That's rights folks! According to, of all sources, Fox News, Florida State Rep. Robert "Bob" Allen, of Merrit Island, was arrested in Orlando on second degree misdemeanor charges for soliciation for prostiution. The funny part is that Allen solicited an under cover cop for a blow job while in a public bathroom. He was actually cruising in and out of the bathroom, which is what drew the cops attention.
This entire story is also eerily reminiscent of Ted Haggard in many ways. For instance; Allen received as score of "A" from the Christian Coalitions 2005-2006 scorecard. His voting record proves he's very "conservative", even against property rights. He agreed with the Christian Coalition 92% of the time. Ironically he was the author of the failed Florida HB 1475 - Lewd or Lascivious Exhibition act. In addition to this Allen sought mandatory life without parole sentences for those designated as sexual predators.
Most of the stuff I've seen about this guy mention his widely spread anti-gay rhetoric although his PR is now trying to spin that he never took those stances.
This is just priceless. What's next Katherine Harris stripping in some Miami dive, claiming it was for Jeeziz??? ROFL

1) If this is according to fox news, where is the fox news link?
2) Not the first time a politician got caught doing something like this and I doubt it will be the last. We do need to hold our politicians to higher standards and when they break the law, they should immediately be tossed out.
It's not a problem with Florida and the GOP, per se, but Florida as a whole. That's where all the perverts and simpletons are gathering, and they vote other perverts and simpletons into office. Disgusting state.

Sorry, my bad. It's a link to the Fox affiliate in Orlando.
It is ok. You are forgiven :)

Ah, when I point out that homosexuals cruise the public restrooms of Virginia for sex, people insist that I'm making it up, and that it's total bullshit.
It's far more popular than you think.
Oh yeah - and in this case, the Republican is not only soliciting sex, it's homosexual sex.
Double bonus points!
Unless, of course, he's a Log Cabin Republican, in which case, he's only doing what they do.
Whoa. Well, atleast the cop was 18.
To clarify, go figure, another moral majority member is queer as a three dollar bill! Ha! The prostitution thing I couldn't give a shit less about, it ought be legal anyway.

I find it so deliciously ironic though, especially in the wake of the Foley thing. I simply love to see preachy wingnuts, especially those that curry the favor of the Christian Coalition, get their asses handed to them in this fashion.

Well, next time you're in the men's room, and a guy asks for a blowjob, ask him for his Congressional ID card.

obviously the problem is not with the state rep. its with the police department.
if they would inform the legislature of their intent to set up prostitution stings in public bathrooms, the man never would have looked for sex there.

My favorite part of it is that according to the wording in the story I read about this last night, the legislator was offering twenty bucks for the privilege of blowing the undercover cop.

Like I said, get online at an AFF chat room, and you'll find literally hundreds of men offering to blow you for nothing, sight unseen, no questions asked, or will pay you for the privilege.
They'll meet you at the rest stops along the highway.

Who for some reason seem drawn, like a fly to a bugzapper, to the GOP. Is it their way of hiding from themselves, or is it more insidious? Like "if I become a republican elected official, no one will suspect that I'm actually gay and snort coke,"?

no, this is what happens when people are born into a family, society and culture that teaches them that a certain lifestyle is wrong, sinful, and will send them to hell, while at the same time their own sexuality is developing in the direction of that very same lifestyle.
It's neither hiding, nor duplicity. It's pure self loathing. Trying to pass legislation demonizing "them", knowing deep down that you're punishing yourself. It's no different than flaggelation. Lord, forgive me for this sin etc etc.

Most of our society doesn't demonize homosexuality. Nor does most of our culture.
Otherwise, they wouldn't be popular lifestyles on television.
Maybe his family did demonize it, but there's no excuse for being in the closet these days.

The worst closet cases are infact the same people who yell out against gay rights the loudest. Its sad really. I myself am Gay, when i was younger though i use to be incredibly homophobic, because i grew up only knowing the biases and misconceptions. I learned better and i was able to accept it, some arnt so lucky and they end up building themselves up for the big fall.

Ah sure, it's the new defense. It used to be "i'm not racist, I have black friends", now it's "I'm not a homophobe, I watch queer eye and will and grace". Which means absolutly nothing, until the day your own child comes out to you.
Maybe his family did demonize it, but there's no excuse for being in the closet these days.
Matthew Shephard would disagree. You know, if he was alive instead of being murdered for being openly gay.

Perhaps it's time for gays to stand up and take control of their destiny. To stop relying on self-appointed national leaders to go begging to sit at a hypocritical political table where they are neither welcome nor accepted. To stop characterizing themselves as victims and bestowing awards on celebrities and media outlets because they represent gays "favorably", while gay kids are being pistol whipped and beaten to death and anti-gay violence is on the rise. Perhaps every gay and lesbian individual should stop supporting gun-control advocates, and arm themselves with guns and ammunition and embrace the gun ownership philosophies of rabid homophobe and National Rifle Association chairman, Charlton Heston. Because neither a Human Rights Campaign membership, nor a federal law could have saved Matthew Shepard that night. But a loaded gun might have. Ironic, since it was an unfired gun that killed him.

This is a thread pertaining to American society's intolerance of homosexuality and you're trying to build a straw man about gun control.

Most of our society doesn't demonize homosexuality. Nor does most of our culture.Really? We don't? So they are treated with equal protection under the law? All laws? Really?
Yes, we've gotten better. No, we aren't there yet.
Furthermore, the self hating would have developed when he was 16 or so...so look at the treatment of gays then, not today.
Otherwise, they wouldn't be popular lifestyles on television.
If we treated them equally, they'd have equal rights and responsibilites.
Maybe his family did demonize it, but there's no excuse for being in the closet these days.famiy opinion means nothing? What about a self-loathing personality?
