Study finds smoking wards off parkinsons disease.
The apparent protective effect of tobacco against the degenerative nerve disease has been observed for years but a University of California Los Angeles School of Public Health report said a new review of existing studies seems to confirm it, with long-term and current smokers at the lowest risk.

So, what? Is this a blow to the ever present 'TRUTH' Campaign? Are we now going to see permits for smoking in pulic places that have recently banned the practice?
I for one would like to know who funded these studies.

Won't make any difference. Smoking probably isn't a healthy decision regarless, and the anti-smoking movement probably doesn't base their decisions on fact in any event. ;)

Stress does kill. And, jogging during a heat wave.
Note to joggers: you're human - when it's 102 degrees, take a break. :p
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but my commute yesterday was greatly delayed by a dead jogger in the road. ;)

So one study finds one protective advantage to smoking and that nullifies all of the bad?

I don't think anyone's suggesting that. The OP's "I'd like to know who funded the study" probably suggest some incredulity, if anything. :p

The sentences above that are what I was referring to. Sorry I should have made that clearer

Yes, it's like declaring that standing next to a nuclear explosion rids you of head lice.
I can't believe it's smoking itself that helps, but some ingredient within tobacco that can be safely extracted and taken in a healthier form.
Hemlock is a natural antibiotic. Legalise hemlock! Free the philosopher's weed!

I just took that for a shot at the TRUTH campaign, which is highly obnoxious whether you're a smoker or not, I find. :)

No, but one of those arguements that encourage those looking for a reason, I suppose. But what perscripsion drug out there doesn't cure one ailment and causes twelve more?

I still maintain, and it is proven by numerous experiments and studies, that stress kills people.
Fucks up your heart, your veins, everything. Stress feels bad for a reason - it is unhealthy.
Everyone needs to have an out, a way to relax, to let everything go and just sit back and melt for a little while.
A nice cigar does that trick, at least for me and mine.
Give the cares of life, love and finance a break - sit back and enjoy the focused calm of enjoying a fine cigar, you'll find it is quite the pastime. For me, it is sitting upstairs looking out on the city, sitting by a friend's pool, or enjoying the fine appointments of my cigar store / lounge. Try it!

Bacterial infections kill people too. In all manner of ways. A nice sprig of hemlock is a grand natural antibiotic. Just ignore all those dangerous side effects like death.

Smoking also prevents me from being driven insane by clouds of midges when I'm out and about. I do, however, accept that overall it's really bad for me.
Smoking seriously reduces the risk of dying of old age! :)

I have stupidly low blood pressure, I smoke and have huge amounts of salt, drink like a fish all to try and get it to a normal level.
Aside from the thing of smoking being effective against midges when out and about. A lit cigarette is the best thing to take the itch out of mosquito bites.
