The NS film thread

Call to power

Today I was out minding my own business when I saw a videotape left carelessly on the floor (I was attracted to it because it was left standing on its side)

I picked it up and went home to find out what it was, turns out it was just a blank tape but it left a thought in my head all day long:

what films do NS recommend watching these days?

I completely second carry on up the khyber. Sid james at his finest. (Though he was a bit of a macum).

I just rented The Prestige. I sort of like it, and it was worth watching.

My favorites: Forrest Gump, the Back to the Future movies, Casino Royale. I watched part of Detroit Rock City once. Wasn't bad.

I just watched Crank (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crank_(film))...

basically it's sex, drugs violence and adrenaline...

I also recently watched Catch a Fire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch_a_Fire_%28film%29) which I thought was really good...

My movie selections have sucked so badly as of late that I might have to turn my degree back in.

I've said it before, and I'll continue doing so until somebody say' fuck me yeah you right I've seen that and it was fuckin' brilliant'.

I nominate the film 'Bliss' a large screen adaptation of the novel by the same name, from that great Aussie authour Peter Carey.

Go out and find a copy right now! Do it!

I didn't want to see Keanu Reeves destroy a perfectly good Philip K. Dick novel, so I didn't see it. El Laberinto del Fauna was amazing, but all of Toro's films are. The next two were allright. Nothing to write home about. And I have not seen Carry On Up The Khyber. What is it about?

I loved that movie. You should see Italian for Beginners, or if you like dark Dogma films, Festen is awesome.

The trouble with films based on Carey's novels is that it is impossible to convey the poetry of his language. How do you capture the voice of Ned Kelly as he whispers that

"She loves me. She loves me through the driving rain."

Not big on recent movies - most of them lack something.

For classic movies, my favorite is The Wild Bunch (from the 1960s).

Ahhh that don't matter at all really. When you read a book the voices you give to the charectors come right out of your head, and so are bound to be totaly differant from say the voices I may give the same charector. So it is kinda irelvant.

You should read his novels. Really.

Better than the remake. Though I liked the fast zombies in the new one.

Sometimes I think the warp has a mind of its own...

Well, I'd never read the book, or much of Dick's work for that matter, so I was more interested in the look and feel of it than it's quality as an adaptation.

As for Carry on up the Khyber, it's a 1960's 'Carry On' spoof of the British Empire in the late 19thC. Was sort of a joke option, but it's actually a very good film. Incidentally, Khyber Pass is rhyming slang for ass. *nods*
