Words that disappoint.

There are certain words that sound considerably more interesting than they are. I find it greatly disappointing when I think of these words being misused.

Some examples:

Boolean
Homogeneous
Superscript
Congenital
Abreast
Soporific

and probably the most disappointing word ever: Titmouse.

I'd say bluetit is a biggie in that field.

Swansea always makes me laugh, knowing a bit of colloquial German and all that.

What's not to like about 'soporific?' ;)

I suggest:

-Hypertension
-Superintend
-Magnanimous
- Some others :p

In the same vein, I suggest "titular." No one has ever been pleased after looking that one up, I'd wager. :p

Neat word, though. I hadn't even seen it used before, though I read mainly fiction and it seems more a clinical term. :)

I think thats mainly due to differences in word usage on opposite sides of the pond.

Tu'i Tonga Imperium (come on, guys... it had the territory of Belgium in dry land? Far less, I think..)

Of course there is the typical disappointing term in the local German: Halver Hahn (half rooster) on a menu means half of a bread roll and cheese.

Hmmm, I keep getting shouted at by Welsh people for calling it rabbit.

That could be because the next words out of my mouth generally involve me taking the piss out of them for having cheese on toast as a national dish though. :D
