Do you believe that a person has before their career a duty to first be a citizen and have an obligation to their community and it's peoples welfare, a patriotic duty if you will?

I feel a pretty strong connection to my community. My job is important, but I'm not about to run off to some other country for a few extra bucks per year. First thing's first. ;)

NEITHER!

the first 'duty' of any person of conscounse is to avoid causing suffering.

any and all suffering.

reguardless of nation, species or even planet.

this includes preventing others from causing suffer where it is possible to do so WITHOUT causing more suffering then is prevented.

putting career, self, or group affiliation ahead of this, be it political, religeous or of any other nature, ahead of this, is precisely what the LACK of conscounse and morality IS!

Eh. I think he meant "career or community - which is first," rather than "career, community or conscience (I think that's the word you're going for)." Naturally, being a good human being is more important than either. ;)

there is no such thing as supporting, being good for, being whatever you want to call it of, to/for community in any sense, without conscience.

the is why this whole pretense of so called patriotism is the biggest big lie of them all.

So what's more important to you - acting consciensciously to further your career, or acting consciensciously to further your community? ;)

My first duty is to my community.

And also, I'm not technically a citizen, I'm a subject, which kind of ruins the title of the topic, but meh.

Well so am I, but I still consider myself a citizen and entitled to certain rights.

acting consciensciously to avoid screwing everything up for everyone else including you, me and the gate post. (and the little furry critter who's shit firtilizes the tree that makes the air that you and i and everyone else has to breathe in order to live).

trying to pretend that such a thing as "career", as if there were such a thing, had anything positive to contribute to any of that, is nothing but shere ignorant ego.

That's a pretty emphatic "no".

I have a responsibility to myself to make myself as happy as I can be. A big part of that is not causing unnecessary suffering and making sure that the people I care about have a good time.

Anything beyond that is made up by people who want to use me as a tool to further their own personal goals. If they want me to help them, they should come out and say so. They can put their case forward rationally and try to get me to do it voluntarily (perhaps in return for a fee). But I really can't stand it if people appeal to silly imaginary things that only exist because of peer pressure.
