She wanted to be his new mommy

Two girls, 10 and 12 years old, kidnap a baby. Ransom note and everything. Their excuse? The older one wanted to be his new mommy. Seriously. I just have to say "lolz". I mean, come on. In memory of DCD. RIP.

A 1-year-old Enid boy was safe at home Thursday after allegedly being kidnapped earlier in the day by two pre-teen neighbors who demanded $200,000 in ransom.

Sheila Wells said her son, Brandon, was doing fine, despite the ordeal.

“He’s had a long day,” she said.

Sounds like something a lawyer told those kids to say after the fact. Looks like their best defense is insanity, and they're going with it.

Edit: Heh, I was thinking of something else. ;)

No, that's what the kids tried to tell their mother. So, it was post hoc, but not a lawyer thing.

I'm always weirded out by baby dolls and all that 'little mommy' stuff thats sold to little girls, like, "Shit, man-you're only like 4-5 years older than the thing you're pretending to raise..." I'm not a girl so I don't really get it. I guess I could get it without being a girl, but I don't. Either way, it creeps me out in a 'pre-teens kidnaping a real baby' kind of way. "Little Mommies" should be (I guess thats too definitive...) being "little girls"...

I probably just don't understand, but it weirds me the hell out.

Yeah, it's weird. Although nowadays, with all the dolls that pee themselves and cry and all that, it may actually be discouraging them from having their own kids, if anything. :p

I'm pretty sure being parents is a little glorified. When I said I didn't want a family (probably a dumb thing to say, but...) my parents acted like I'd committed the ultimate sin.

Well, from their point of view it was like saying, "Yeah, this whole getting married and having me? That was a crap idea."

Not really, I just wanted to say that.

Maybe they just want me to have a high standard of life. The way I envision myself (alone in an apartment) isn't appealing to them.

Why does every little girl want to be a parent? Kids are hyper and messy and way too hard to keep track of, and this is just from baby-sitting.

then again... every guy I know has said that he wants to be a bachelor, while every girl someday plans to be married and have kids.

I hope they don't receive too much of a punishment. This, in the end, was harmless overall. They just need to understand that this sort of thing is a bad idea and to not demand $200,000 in ransom.

For a twelve year old and a ten year old, yes it is. They should do at the very most 6 months, as far as I am concerned. They're kids. They are unable to fully understand the consequences of their actings. Punishing them for years is completely ridiculous for something this ultimately harmless.

Yes, if you are an adult who understands what you're doing. But these kids aren't going to be able to understand it beyond the basic idea! Punishing them as much as they are is ridiculous, let alone something like life!

I say we charge them the full sentence, it will send a message to kidnapping pre-teens everywhere.

I blame the parents for not properly teaching the child right and wrong, and that the things they see on TV are usually fake and not to be emulated. And the people who will blame this on TV... its your fault!

I also blame Live Earth because I wasted 20 minutes watching the Smashing Pumpkins suck horribly.

Considering that their own parents failed to teach them to take responsibilty...

Though 6 months is really lenient. 8 and 6 years though... that's excessive.

It's only until the age of majority. Sounds about right in this case, though we'd really need all the details to decide definitively. ;)

Why are the youth of today so god-damned fucked up?

Today's parents are too wrapped up in their careers, in their own affairs, etc. to be very worried about their children. They aren't disciplining their children like they should be, and they aren't teaching their children right from wrong as they should be.

They are leaving their children to be tought by the media.

I further blame our culture, which advocates anti-religious values, a sense of personal liscense, sexual immorality, and rebellion against authority.

The blame lies, further, heavily on the parents too, for not caring about their childrens' souls, and leaving them uneducated in the Christian Faith, and not even going to church themselves, much less bringing their children.

But I blame it the most on Martin Luther, the Protestants, and the Enlightment philosophers, and the Atheists that came after.

The Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is our only hope for a bright future, in which our children are not so "fucked up." And our culture, as it is, seeks all but to drive it out entirely from all her affairs.

How else do you suggest they feed and clothe their children? Go begging for alms?

They are rather young for 6 or 8 year jail sentences for something that was obviously just a stupid, quasi-passing idea in an incomplete mind. Counselling for that long, sure. Jail sentence? A year, maybe. Having them stuck in jail for that long at this age is more likely to make them worse, not better. Some time in jail, giving them time to think about what they did and how it was such a not good idea, is worthwhile. As is counselling (helps them learn what is a good idea, etc.).
But hey, personal opinion.
