Summer Vacation - What Will You Do, Are You Doing, Have You Done?

Something other than the heavy, depressing subjects of Iraq, Bush, bullies, children gone wrong and terrorists.

How are you spending summer?

I, for instance, had a great time this past week. On June 29, I saw Celtic Woman with my kids at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver. On July 1, my kids and I drove to the top of Pike's Peak; the weather was wonderful, the view was inspiring, even my son's dog, Morgan, got in the act and went swimming in Crystal Reservoir. On July 4, we went to a baseball game, Rockies vs. Mets. The Mets were royally trounced - 17 to 7. After the game there was an outstanding fireworks display. Later this month, were going to the Renaissance Festival in Larkspur and in September, we're going to another baseball game in Denver (for which we got free tickets!).

I love summer in Colorado.

...

I hate summer in Colorado. It's way too damned hot. I want my winter back, damn it! That's why I live here! For the winter!

Anyway, I'm not really doing anything different from what I have been doing. Basically, I'm just being myself.

I'm working all summer. My girlfriend is flying out from Iowa in August and we are going to see Tahquamenon Falls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tahquamenon_Falls) , the Pictured Rocks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictured_Rocks) and maybe Mackinac Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackinac_Island). Other than that I'm saving up so I don't get raped too hard on student loans next semester.

Well, my summer just started, and the first week went by so fast..

I've seen the King Tut exhibit, went to an AYCE ice cream thing at Penn's Landing..

I'd hardly consider them vacation type deals..

I'm trying to get to the beach within the next two weeks, any one know of some good places in New Jersey, besides Wildwood? Laid back type towns, you know?

I hope you got a good description for the Police.

actually i find summer a heavy depressing subject because hot weather makes me feel helpless and all but hopeless. although at least not scared out of my wits as i am by what is running the most powerful intrests on earth and what it appears to be motivated by.

what i am doing is what i always do, which is far from depressing or heavy, so indeed back to more cheerful and hopeful notes. actually there is much hope for this world as well, though that is still another subject.

i'm staying under the air conditioner in my little house, my wife's little house if you want to put it that way, as it is she who has the means of paying its rent.

i'm sitting in front of this computer, making pictures of the kind of world i would rather be living in. if and when it cools off enough i may go for walks or bus or train rides, preferably up into my hills, or at least someplace a little cooler.

school was more then 40 years ago, and indenturing myself to the usual ambient assumptions a good 20. so for me, one season, other then for conditions of weather and climate, is much like another.

i do have a bit of a garden, with a train in it too, and i enjoy that. most of what i do, besides looking after the house, is on the computer. although i used to, and still love to, wander arround a bit. like i say walking, or on busses and trains. both of which, there are not nearly as many in relation to population as their needs to be. (which i'm convinced has something to do with that bankers and oil barrons can reach deeper into everyone else's pockets by invisibly coercing them into indenturing themselves for a car)

i love little furry creatures and nature too, and grew up much closer to both then i am living now. again it is mostly the computer and this internet that comes to the rescue of what sanity i may have left.

now what i'm doing for the winter when that comes, that is when it actually gets cool enough to go out and move about a bit more, and like a student in winter looking forward to summer, i in summer, am looking forward, as i always do, to autum, winter and the glories of yet another spring.

one thing i will probably be doing along about january or later, is going to either furcon in late january, or baycon, somewhere near my birthday in may.

the end of this month, is my wife's birthday, and sometime, whenever we get enough cooler of a day, and my schedule slips back arround to where i'm awaike in at least part of the daytime, we'll take a little ride up to one the smaller towns a little way up into my hills.

have lunch. ride arround on the local buss there a bit, and turn arround and come back.

not real exiciting for someone younger perhaps, but excitement isn't the main component of gratification for myself. creating and exploring are. and riding arround on trains and bussess is the next best thing.

if i was living up in my woods i'd be walking arround a lot more, although probably still not every day. if i were living up in my woods and there were lots of little people sized trains running arround all over the place in it, well that's another storry, and a day i believe may come, whether i'm still arround to enjoy it when it does, or not.

in the mean time, what i will continue doing, is making pictures in the computer of what it might be like when it does. that and looking for pictures that look like that on the net, and, now that i've got a little digital camera too, looking to take pictures like that where i can find them.

Well, when summer rolls around in six months I'm probably going to sit around and complain about the weather. That's usually how I spend it.

Sorry. Like most of us in the north, I forgot about you nice people in the Southern Hemisphere. Well, I guess we're all a little region-centric. So, what are you doing for winter?

It's alright. Well, against all common-sense a friend of mine has decided to round up fourteen other people (including myself) to go camping for 4 days next week. Then bumming around the house for another week if I'm lucky enough to have passed all my exams. Otherwise the last week of the holidays is supp study *shudders*.

not much yet. going to go on holiday with glitzi in France towards the end of the summer, but other than that no real plans. was going to see Patrick Stewart in a production of Macbeth but its right royally sold out now :(

also hoping to go to Bloodstock festival and see Testament, but not so sure about that either (can't get people to come and i saw them on my own last time)

other than that, work. might get away somewhere else sometime, but meh... money.

I ate some magickal mushrooms. Mmm...

Wrote a little. Read alot.

Taught my daughter to swim and my son to walk.

Getting ready for the birth of child #3 in August.

Looked at roughly eight hundred houses to prepare for the new baby and finally settled on one yesterday.

Helped my recently diagnosed grandfather settle into a chemo schedule, and learned to cook alot of delicious meals that will fit into his plan. High calories, low cholesterol cooking is tricky.
