Ok folks. With all the bad news in the world. the War in Iraq, Crime and punishement in your government/country... let's try to dig up some good news. some inspiring, heroic, and even lighthearted news to lift the gloomy veil from NSG.

be it pics (non modified please) or stories, let's see if we can show some good that's in the world or in your country.

I posted this article in another thread, but it would fit here.

A good worthwhile subject. I think many people read these and it inspires them to do their own random act of kindness.

JuNii wins thread of the day award.

I can't recall, or cite, any individual acts of the sort described, but nonetheless, they always leave me with a warm, tingly feeling inside; human compassion and empathy tends to be reciprocated I feel.

Every time the ugly things of the world get me down, I just think of guys dressed up as Imperial stormtroopers (http://www.501st.com/charity.php) visiting hospitals.

Those guys kick ass.

In continuing news...

RO is still taking care of his sister-in-law's children...

Why? Because she and her husband became oxycontin/heroin/crack/meth addicts.

Oh!

And do the children love RO? Yes, in fact, they love him and his wife far more than their birth parents.

Oh!

And is RO trying to help out the sister-in-law? Yes!

He is providing her a place to stay, the use of a car, and a paid cellphone so she can try to find a job!

Has he done this before?

Yes! Many times!

In fact, he gave a car to the sister-in-law's husband, who promptly blew the engine! Poor 2006 Passat!

Yes, that RO keeps giving and giving...

His thoughts?

"Only the kids are worth saving."

Eh my random act of kindness usually just involve donating money to United Children, St. Judes Hospital, and of course I always talk to the kids at the airport about the wonderful world of aviation. I also corr...I mean prepare some kids for the harsh reality of life. Yes, I want them to be as reclusive, and as cynical as me. :D

I find that the best way to be kind, is to simply be kind. When you're in the mall, hold the door for the person behind you. Someone drops their wallet, you return it to them. Someone is struggling with a box, you help them out.

It's the little things.

In the last year, I've had someone rush on the train after me to hand me my purse which I'd dropped, and recently had someone come after to give me my purse which had fallen out of my bag. Also had someone find my phone on the road to college which had come out of my jean pocket somehow.

Plus, did my own fairly good deed today!
My friend Sarah hurt her knee and couldn't walk, so me and Holly went to the hospital across the road, got Sarah across the road with all her bags, wheeled her around the hospital (after a nice ambulance man saw her hopping across the road and gave her a wheelchair for the last bit!), stayed with her while she waited for a nurse, stayed with her through the assessment, helped the nurse put a bandage on her leg, and then carried all her bags and slowly walked with her a she used crutches to get to the train station. Quite an adventure, when I'd been expecting a fairly lazy college day, just going in for English :p

Another nice thing was the fact that a few days ago, when it was all horribly rainy, cars stopped straight away to let me run across the road with my umbrella (rather than making me wait for aaaages like usual...) :)

I came across this interesting article in the news today.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/japan/story/0,,2124632,00.html

Some guy has been leaving packages in the toilets in the buildings of the Japanese civil service.

Each package contains ¥10k (~$80/£40). The person has left over 400 of these packages so far, with the total money in them being in excess of ¥4,000,000 ($32k/£16k). And each package has phrases like remuneration, for self-improvement, Do only good deeds or Do not think of evil.

Bizarre.

and even more... heartening...

The extent of the man's mission only became clear after several office workers handed in the money to police, who will return it to the finder if it is not claimed by its original owner within six months.
