Cake vs Pie

Tocrowkia

This is the ultimate question. The supreme battle, more exciting than Alien vs Predator, Terminator vs Robocop, Superman vs Batman or anything else that can possibly be imagined.

And in the end,

Only one will win.

And so the question is, which will triumph? Pie...or cake?

Hot and steamy? You stay the hell away from my cream pies and key lime and pumpkin, you freak. HOT strawberry pie? Barf!

 Like there are no pies stuffed with unknown ingredients or of inferior quality or artificial ingredients. "Pink icing" is no worse a heinous food coloring practice than the "neon green" key slime pies you find mass produced. Please, if you're going to argue, don't use mirrors what reflect your own argument back at you.

Guess what? If it's quiche, it isn't pie anymore. That's why they call it "quiche".

A "pizza pie" is just a pizza now. We're not in the 50s anymore. Either that or it's a calzone.

Pot pies, of which Shepherd's is a subset, count, I suppose, but then doesn't that make meatloaf a kind of cake? Or does the "-loaf" designation mean it's a bread relative?

Wow. Tough one. I gotta give the edge to pie. Why? Variety. There are only a few kinds of cake and a handful of ways to prepare them. Pies, however have numerous flavors. You could theoretically have any and every meal in pie form: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Hell, dessert pies have more variety than can be believed: Apple, cherry, blueberry, pumpkin, rhubarb, coconut cream, banana cream, chocolate cream, lemon merengie, key lime, sweet potato, pecan, strawberry, pineapple and various compinations of the above.

And then there's throwing. Pies are much easier to throw than cakes. *nod*

I will say this, however; the exploding cake is thoroughly hilarious. :)

Pie rules

Defensive much?

"Powdered mix"? If youre going to base your argument on what may or may not be in a store-bought cake mix, which by its nature needs to be full of stabilizers, preservatives and all kinds of stuff to ensure its survival in a box on a shelf, then I feel sorry for you -- nobody's ever bothered to bake you a cake from scratch. Trust me -- they're infinitely better than anything that ever came from a box.

As for your ignorance of icing, I see now that it comes from having, once again, never had anyone make you real icing from scratch. GOOD icing, like GOOD examples of pie, is made of actual ingredients you've actually heard of (I can't believe I have to point all this out):

Fluffy Chocolate Frosting recipe

2 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
6 tablespoons butter

Gee, that didn't take me but 10 seconds to look up. Here's the Web site it came from, which features many more icing/frosting recipes, should you be interested. But I doubt you are -- you seem far more interested in being needlessly belligerent.

http://www.recipegoldmine.com/cakefrost/cakefrost.html

Before you tell someone they're making themselves look like an ass, you should make sure you're not looking into a mirror.

There are crappy, mass-produced pies, just like there are crappy, mass produced cakes and icing. You deliberately missed my point about the glow-in-the-dark variety of key lime pie filling found in places like Denny's or Perkins or other chain-diners [news flash: the filling should NOT be bright green] -- if you haven't seen those, you've either not been out and about enough or you're just being willfully dense. And if you honestly believe that all a key lime pie takes is limes, whipped topping and a store crust, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Here's a representative key lime pie recipe from about.com -- feel free to seek out one of your own:

INGREDIENTS:
1 tsp. fresh lime zest
1/4 cup lime juice
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 (14oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 egg
1 10" frozen pie shell, thawed
1/2 cup whipped topping
Garnish:
12 Tbls. whipped topping
12 lime slices
12 maraschino cherries

See how the actual limes are being used for garnish? Lime zest and lime juice go into the filling, not the actual limes themselves.

If you wish to defend something, that's fine, but doing so by ignoring the points your opponent makes and then trying to infer that the opponent is the one in error is disingenuous at best and just plain jackassery at worst.

Personally, I dig both pie and cake, I just like cake a bit more.

ICE CREAM!

the only cake i've ever met i didn't like was a fruit cake.
pies, there are very few i can stand.

so cake before pie (unless its pumpkin, french silk, chocklet moose, that sort of thing, or meat pies, those are ok too, i mean reall meat pies or equivelent, oninon, chese and mushroom are ok too, pasties, pot pies that sort of thing)

but for sweet desert type stuff, cheesecake or ice cream or truffles or eclairs, napoliens, that sort of thing, befor even sacher torte, or some other wonderful chockletty goodness.

did i mention, any flavor of sweet stuff is alright as long as its chocklet. or green tea.
