It seems as if senior citizens have been fighting back succesfully,in recent stories.

Recently,we had a 70 yr old Marine on vacation in Costa Rica choke and armed robber to death.
Another post today shows a 71 yr old shooting armed convenient store robber to death and now thisone:

http://news.aol.com/story/_a/ex-marine-teaches-pickpocket-a-lesson/20070627100009990001

I havent located the video they showed on the news yet, but this old guy pummeled the low-life.

Maybe the predatory opportunists out there will re-evaluate their intended victims.

Hey there, I think Jules Verne beat you to this post by a day or two, and it is still on the front page with an even more obvious title than this thread has.

Doing that is stupid. I did not say what you put in my quote. If I, or anyone else, said something in their quote you disagree with, address it in your post, do not change their quote. This goes for you and anyone else.

By changing your post (which I acknowledged) I point out my argument. Totally different from an ad hominum

better yet, maybe old marines should be posted in convenient stores to help protect the rest of you.

The ones we have seen in this thread and others are still serving their fellow man.

That isn't the point. Changing my post does not "point out your argument" because you didn't make one. You just changed my quote to something I did not say. I said what I said as I meant to say it. If you want to fuck up people's quotes, become a journalist, otherwise, make your own argument and address what you disagree with.

My point, which you are still pointedly ignoring, is that it is a false simplification to say that old marines are dangerous as that doesn't make the clarification that they are dangerous in certain situations. There is the point spelt out to you. Address it if you want

Its likely he is more concerned with the amount of cash the would-be-victim had on him, as if that played some part in why a scum-bag tried to take advantage of his age.

Probably not a good move, a lot of little old ladies are pretty feisty these days, and armed (I personally, like my knife, it doesn't have a long blade, but it's long enough and but I keep it sharp).

You know, if everyone approached punks in this manner, the supply of punks would dry up pretty quickly.

That was completely uncalled for. Dundee was pointing out what he believed to be a flaw in your statement. You, on the other hand, were just being a jackass and using argumentum ad hominem.

Well- I'm not suggesting the criminal here be drawn and quartered or sent to a concentration camp.

I see some justice in him taking a totally unexpected beating, having his crime stopped dead in its tracks, the huniliation of having what he thought was an easy prospect turn out so badly for him, on video.

Now he can face the normal criminal justice system. Normally,if he were simply IDd and caught, he'd get very light sentencing.

I'd like to think this guy is smart enough to have learned his lesson.

So what is an acceptable sentence for pick-pocketing? 10 minutes in a UFC or boxing ring?

6 months probation + restitution seems reasonable for pickpocketing.

Are they going to be 70 year olds in the ring? I think without them having the element of surprise I could take 'em.

.......

And now karma is gonna get me beaten up by an elderly gent :(

I dont know what the sentence for that crime is.

Maybe they could get a still from the video, clear enough to show the elderly man's fist connecting with the criminal's face and put it on a billboard, the way they sometimes do with Driver's license pictures of men that sollicit prostitutes and get caught.
