EU uses sex to attract supporters
Yes, you read that right!
When the EU opened its own channel on YouTube, no-one could have predicted it would get upwards of 20,000 hits a day.
[...] Titled Film Lovers Will Love This!, [a clip] shows men and women having sex in different ways and places, and ends with the words, "Let's come together".
[...] European Commission spokesman Martin Selmayr said there had been a flood of complaints from Poland about an intimate scene between two men - but refused to accept there was anything controversial about the film.
Fuming at what he called "quasi-religious bashing of the very important cultural diversity we have in the European Union", he said the lovemaking clips were excerpts from award-winning films, and that the commission was proud of the EU's rich cinematic heritage.
[...] At the launch of the channel on Friday, Commission Vice-President Margot Wallstrom said: "It is very important for the Commission to use all the means at its disposal when it comes to communicating with European citizens."
None of the e-mailers to the EUtube site has objected about sexual content.
The main complaint has been that few of the films are yet available in languages other than English, but the orgasmic cries of Film Lovers Will Love This! need no translation.

We're Europeans. While perfectly capable of fighting - as witnessed in the last 2500 years (at least) of our history - we'd rather fuck than fight!
Yes, John Wayne firing a gun has less appeal on a European guy or girl than - let's say - a love scene between Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. ;)

I see an element of humour in this initiative, and I think it is wonderful that the official EU embraces that.

Most of this comes straight from the wonderful film "Amelie," from one of the bits where Amelie is day dreaming about the number of people who are right at that second having an orgasm. No doubt it would not play very well in the bible belt, but most of us, happily, have evolved further than that.

If I remember correctly, the frying eggs were from either Delicatessen, or Le Destin Fabuleux de Amelie Poulin, both of which are films by Jean-Paul Jeunet. In both films, he uses the effect of filming inanimate objects that are subsequently set in rocking motion by the fury and passion of the lovemaking happening nearby. His only Hollywood movie that I know of is Aliens 4: Resurrection, which I thought was awesome.

Sex doesn't add anything to a film. It merely makes the film substantially more uncomfortable to watch with one's family and friends.
That said, it severely reduces the number of actors and actresses who can be in the film in the leading roles. Obviously, a married actor or actress isn't going to be doing such a film. No?

Why shouldn't they be in the film? It's a simulation of sex and nothing more. If their partner has a problem with that fair enough but its not as if it's adultery

1) Someone's a prude. Sexual scenes can and do add to movies...
2) a) I think they still do and they certainly still can
b) Even if not, I don't care because it's the director's movie so w/e.

Sex isn't just about lust, you know. It's about an expression of feelings. The vast majority of sex in films is simulated. Married actors and actresses do not have a problem with acting out sex in a film. The same way they don't mind kissing someone in a film, or acting out dying or killing someone in a film. That's the thing about films - they tend to be fictional.
