Why is it when a bomb goes off somewhere, it's automatically part of some great big network of people who want to kill us, but when a political figure gets killed, it's always "A Lone Gunman" (TM)?

Seriously, why can't anyone just assume this was done by some random crazy guy? It seems like a much more likely conclusion.

Maybe it was Barak Obama. Or Maybe it John McCain. Or maybe it was Jorge the illegal. Maybe it was Michael Moore striking a blow against America's evil healthcare industry.

Who dunnit? That is the question.

It went off in a parking lot, away from people, inside a trash can. What does that say?

Terrorists aim for a trash can in the middle of a parking lot? Maybe radical angsty teenagers... but certainly not terrorists.

Because it's easier to get a rifle than to get/manufacture explosives.

If that was a terror attack then we really need to stop the war on terror right now, 'cause they're not a threat.

Beary said investigators were trying to determine what the device was made of, but “end caps” typical of pipe bombs were found.coke bottles sealed with end caps?

I'll admit it's hardly a serious threat, but if it was a manufactured IED (technically, a firecracker is an explosive device.) do we wait till it becomes a serious threat?

Hardly terrorists. They tend to use some quantities of gas and nails and pick a target with optimal kills.

Teenager prank.

It was probably some idiots with fireworks/something else that wasn't a serious threat. It was in a trash can far away from anyone else-- it didn't even blow up the trash can. Either this terrorist was testing his bomb, or was very tentative about detonating it.

Either one of thoe two or some idiot with fireworks.

Looks like it was Krusty the Clown that did it. He's confessed to the police.

On the serious side, I don't think teens would have gone to the trouble of building a failed pipebomb. Cause a failed pipebomb means they were intending to cause some destruction.

I think it is possible that this was a practice device. Though I am likely to be wrong, hopefully.
Or it could be a warning that THEY"RE here. Oooh. Scary.

I think that is a terrorist were to try to bomb Disney World, then he would most likely bomb one of the rides rather than a trash can in a parking lot.

"Like this Luke?" *lights fuse*
"Yep... just like that. then we go on and find a trashcan in a busy and crowded area, like...."
"hey, them parking lots are full of people!"
"yeah... a parking lot... like this one."
"yeah... and here's a trash can.... quick like the bomb Billy!"
"Already did... see!"

Okay, first off, who here hasn't dropped a cherry bomb into a trash can? Same thing, really. They probably are pyros who like big bangs, and built their own(It's not that hard, really, and there are several methods to do so. The extent of the damage done indicates amateurs, at best, who just wanted to blow something up).

And if this is a practice device, these people are idiots. If they were practicing, they sure as hell wouldn't do it public, as it would draw to much attention to them.

Exactly. Talk about overreacting. I mean, who didn't play with small explosives when they were a kid? When I was a kid we routinely made small bombs and blew them up in the woods. This is the same sort of thing, only these kids are a lot dumber and more "rebellious".

No shit.

But this just looks like a bunch of kids getting their jollies off rather than act of terrorism. Should whomever did this be punished? Yes. Is it terrorism, or even that much of a threat to anyone? No.

Not to say it isn't dangerous, it is, but these types of things are more dangerous to the actual people who blew up the damn trash can than to anyone else.

I just bet Sheriff Beary is as disappointed as the fat kid on prom night.

Kevin Beary is a nitwit who can't lose because bigger nitwits run against him. As far as his law enforcement qualifications? Before he was the Sheriff of Orange County Florida he was an overpaid assistant security chief at the Kennedy Space Center. He wouldn't know terrorism if it walked up and bit him on his ample ass. He just wants to order new toys for his department.

A pipebomb would have at least blown up the trash can.

Well, it fits right in with the "Pizza Delivery Terrorists" and the "Drop a Match in the Fuel Line Terrorists" at JFK. I dub them the "Trash Can Terrorists" they have about the same IQ and present the same amount of threat. Nil.

Another slow news day in the United States of Bushland.

It could be a random jackass or it could be someone more sophisticated, watching who responds and how.

I think it should be treated with immediate and calm professional investigation. If someone is aprehended, they should be prosecuted fully.

A pipe bomb is not a "prank", wether it goes off as intended or not.

I also think that Disney should consider more security cameras, both hidden and obvious and more security professionals.
I hope this was just an isolated asshole that gets caught and punished.

However, it could be a calculated test.

Or, they're testing to see what the reaction is.
Or, they set off a little one so people say, "pfah, kids," then blow up something significant elsewhere.
Or, all they have to do is make people worried that if they go to Disney World they are going to get maimed or killed. Isn't it the terror, rather than the explosion, that's really the end?

I hope no one expected to get much of a reaction for making smoke come out of a trash can. Are we sure some one didn't drop a firecracker or match down in it?
What the hell are "end caps typical of a pipe bomb"?

Or they lost their nerve. Were afraid of discovery. I imagine we could list any number of possibilities.
Yeah, in their supreme planning to destroy Disney World, they failed to take into account the super strength of the curbside trashcans

I agree there are many, many possibilities, but in my opinion, they should all be treated the same-vigorously investigated & prosecuted.

Security should be constantly re-assesed,schedules changed, employees backrounds thoroughly investigated and vetted continually.

Disney and places like it are very rich targets. High concentrations of people and high emotional value.

They should be protected like the Federal; Reserve.
