Bacon Ost, or It Opens Both Ends Like a Sluice Gate

Bacon is, of course, more than a food. It is a way of life that many of us have embraced. Bacon comes in many forms, all pork based of course. It came to my attention that in Sweden, Bacon was now available in tube form.

Portable bacon is something that the US must have - there is a bacon gap. After all, we must have pork to fight the enemy, and we cannot, will not allow a bacon gap!

Well, I went to a local shop that specializes in European imports, and asked him to procure several tubes of Bacon Ost for me.

We had the Bacon Ost as a pre lunch snack. I bought some Wheat Thins and some bagels which we toasted. A friend of mine broke out some roasted red peppers and some cherry peppers stuffed with prosciutto and provolone.

Bacon Ost is a cream cheese paste with little Bacon granules. The Bacon taste is pronounced and very smoky. It tasted great! I ate more than everyone else. This was to be my downfall.

Of the people who tried it, several became ill, all were thirsty all day and one (me) almost died. Everyone else just pointed at me and laughed as I suffered and ran back and forth to the bathroom. While it tasted good at first, Bacon Ost clearly is something that one must introduce to one's digestive tract SLOWLY...say over the course of years. The remaining Bacon Ost will be saved...for times when we capture some non-pork loving prisoners. Then we shall break the fast!

You realize no one is going to surrender to the threat of being forced to eat bacon, i mean, it would just piss them off.

Baconost (http://www.kavli.se/wps/wcm/connect/se/Produkter/Bredbar+ost/Baconost) is just one variety of cheese melded with bits of awesome (not that I think bacon is awesome - bacon is the devil's laxative - but other people like it) in a tube. There is "champinjonost" (mushrooms), "kantarellost" (chanterelles - this one is to die for!), "kräftost" (crayfish), "räkost" (shrimps), "skinkost" (ham), "paprikaost" (bell peppers), "skagenost" (caviare/roe), "ädelost" (mouldy cheese), "skaldjurost" (shellfish)...

It goes on and on.

We were at IKEA yesterday and I noticed they have an expanded foods section. I vaguely remember the Kavli logo on the window, so maybe they have some baconost or one of the others.

I don't know how extended trips abroad used to be made bearable before IKEA started having food sections. Stepping into one makes even me want to wave a flag and dry a little tear in the corner of my eye.

The dishevelled and rudimentary status of my English bearing testament to that.

....seriously though, he's no provincial.

Lies, all lies! I am a provincial in Sweden - ask any Stockholmer or Gothenburger.

He's mentioned travelling before -- even to Yankland.

Hush about that, child. I know I should have.

I do, I do. That was something of a rhetorical question. He's just ruined a perfectly good cheese thread with it. Ho-hum.
