It pains me to report that, at the tender age of 66, the icon of Marvel Comics, Captain America, will be put to rest.

... Read the link.

I've never really read comics on a daily basis (DC or Marvel) but it gives me a bit of nostalgic sadness to see such a character that has lasted for so long finally be put to rest.

Also, you can put theories on the return of Capt. America here, as long as it doesn't contain anything about zombies or "Pirates 3."

Aw. :(

On the plus side, maybe he's up there in comic heaven now, fighting injustice with Hauptmann Deutschland, or something. :p

1) the super soldier serum in his system actually placed him in a Hyper Coma (similar to when he was frozen in the artic) and his body will heal. then he will "burst" from his grave when the storyline calls for it.

2) that is not Steve Rogers (tho why his Identity is considered "secret" since the Government knows who he is.) but one of the many who held the mantle of Capt. America.

there were reportedly 6 others who wore the mantle Captain America, including John Walker (USAgent).

3) a clone of him will be created.

did you seriously just notice this? He died WEEKS ago. Clearly you are NOT a comic junkie, which is forgivable, however, don't try to pass off stale news as something fresh. Also, does anyone else feel that the way he died was complete bull5hi7?

Read the article. Yes he was SHOT a few weeks ago, however this article is about his FUNERAL, the comic for which just came out. As the OP said, "put to rest", not killed.

well, as we all know, none of it's real. They don't need some sort of reason to bring him back, they just can. also, marvel works on a multiverse, so universes can cross paths and he can just be alive. that simple.

Or it could be that Marvel is making a subtle political commentary about the United States today.

Jason Todd is alive. And Captain Marvel is back for an encore performance(snatched out of time).

The only person that stays dead is Uncle Ben. *nod*

The short version is that Superboy Prime(the bad guy from Infinite Crisis) was smashing at the barrier between his pocket paradise and the real universe for some time before his escape. These caused ripples in spacetime that altered history. AMong several other hiccups in time(and probably the most dramatic one) was Jason Todd waking up from the dead in his grave. *nod*

He is not a very nice guy anymore.

You missed a possible scenario.

4) someone stumbles upon the formula for the Super Soldier Serum, takes it, and becomes the new Captain America. Then somehow, the formula gets lost/destroyed again.

Dibs on it being Bruce Banner :p

Unless this isn't part of the Ultimate series (only Marvel storyline I've ever been interested enough to follow).

Well, Cap's death is supposed to symbolize the death of America. If the America that Cap fought for comes back, Cap will come back. (I'm guessing such a thing would involve President Bush no longer being president)

Jason Todd being alive is an alternate universe, I think.

Hackeye just came back from the dead and Ironman wanted him to be the new Cap but after a brief period of being Cap he gave it up. There is a new superhero called Patriot whos like what would have been a sidekick and Hackeye now a girl, also like what would have been a sidekick, works with Patriot. Ironman gave the old hackeye who came back to life Cap's shield. There are two fakes of it. Yes, you said no zombies but you aren't taking into account the new series Marvel Zombies where Cap is alive. There are new comics set "pre-Civil War" sp Cap is alive. I really hope Cap comes back he came back from the dead more than once throughout the comics. Besides this is Steve Rogers, he's been shot before why would he die this time. SHIELD and Ironman might figure out a way to bring Cap back, i hope so he's pretty much my favorite Marvel character.

I never really liked Captain America that much, but he brings back fond memories of going to the arcades with my brother in Jersey... I remember them always having a Captain America cabinet running...

I suspect he'll be back by '08, though.

Actually, that's what I've been thinking ever since he got shot. If he comes back, it'll be when America rediscovers itself. If Cap's death is symbolic of the death of America, then his rebirth would be, well, symbolic of America being reborn.

And in a What If. Specifically, the shortest What If ever. I think the title was "What If Galactus was Adopted by Ben and May Parker".

It's not the first time, and I'm sure it won't be the last.

However, he's supposed to be a military hero who stands for everything that's best about our country during military crises. Such a hero can't possibly be admired in this day and age when war is seen by any thinking individual as a perverse machine fueled with our nations young to enrich our nations old, corrupt and powerful.

Comic book readers tend to be fairly bright individuals. If you don't get the symbolism right, they aren't going to stick around for the lousy dialogue and predictable plot.

To be fair, that's what the wars of the US have become (and arguably, have always been). Still, I would personally believe that there is a time and place for war. WWII was one of those times.

Capitan America's illegitimate son dons the mask and takes out revenge on his fathers killers, possibly wear a black costume.

Capitan America's clone is built by the gov't.

Capitan America from another dimension comes back and its business as usual.

Capitan America is replaced by Major Canada who wears a mounty inspired uniform and saves the world form the evil moose syndicate.
