So here is a 105-year-old man who just became a U.S. citizen who said it was worth the wait. He is a spry old codger who rides a scooter to the store to play the lottery, rolls his own cigars, drinks whiskey with friends, and has a girlfriend.

Temprana got out at age 93, applied for a humanitarian visa and flew to Miami.

Once here, he worked to get his citizenship but fell short twice.

"I've wanted it since I was 8 or 10 years old," Temprana said.

And some of you want to give amnesty to those who cut in line?

That's an interesting conclusion to draw...

This story make me think that maybe this guy should have gotten citizenship sooner and that the process shouldn't be so ridiculous.

Maybe not everyone wants to wait until they are 105.

Ideally, everyone would have an equal chance and would wait a reasonable amount of time (say, under a decade). It's kinda sad when you go overseas and meet people who've been applying for years, only to give up or try to save the $60,000 in cash to pay off the Canadians. If we could control the flow from the South, there'd be less of that, I think.

So, you are saying that people who want to cheat and break the law should move ahead of those who want to do it by the law?

I am so glad that he got it, and feel terrible that he had to wait for nearly a century. Yet it sounds like one of his major life goals is complete, and for that, I am immensily proud of him. He should be proud of himself, too.

DO you realize that this is not an argument against immigration reform, but an argument FOR it? Do you realize how pitiful that he had to wait 12 years?

Eh. It's an argument for a *certain* kind of immigration reform, I guess.

So, in your opinion it is OK for those coming in illegally to move to the head of the line. Should we make it easier for people to get in legally, yes. Should we give amnesty to those who have come in illegally, NO.

Legal immigration is good. We do need both unskilled labor and highly skilled labor in this country. However, those coming in must do so legally.

So, let us continue to tell Congress we want the current laws enforced and we want the leaks in both the borders (North & South) stopped first. Then let's talk about immigration reform.

Let's tell the Presidential candidates that if they don't want to enforce the immigration laws they won't get elected.

Isn't there something a bit more important you'd want in a Presidential candidate?

We could just, you know, relax immigration quotas. Illegal immigration solved.
And before you say something about "well we should just legalize murder then because people kill," please do remember that murder is morally and ethically wrong, while wanting better for you or your family now as opposed to ten years from now, is not.

It's probably just that they tend to mention it more when they do. :p Living that age, in spite of smoking or hard-drinking or an all-burger diet always gets more headline space.
