I'm surprised some sort of WWIII didn't happen after 9-11. Although, since most nations are now assisting in the war on terror, it 'might' be considered WWIII, but I doubt it.

I guess that all depends. We're a very violent species that can now bring our conflicts on a global level, I suppose it is quite possible, unless world leaders are more willing to sit down and talk. But nukes of course would be a huge deterrent. That's why nothing happened directly between the US and the Soviet Union. Any sort of war that could be called World War III would not be like the first two

It wouldn't necessarily be between European nations like the last two. Could concievably break out in Asia, or between the US and some other country

I have adopted a formulation of my friend Elliot Cohen who teaches at Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies calls it World War IV. World War III having been the Cold War. And I think that more accurately characterizes the degree of commitment that we are going to have to be engaged in, and the scope of what we are going to be engaged in now for some years. This Fourth World War I think will last considerably longer than either World Wars I or II did for us, hopefully not the full four-plus decades of the Cold War.

Meh. In actuality, if the "War on Terror" was a World War, (which it isn't) it'd be the sixth or seventh, due mostly to colonialism.

String theory as yet has no way to either test or observe the effects of everything being made up of strings. It also has the problem of having several equally possible theories. Unless you are talking about M-Theory?

WWIII will occur due to the ongonig conflicts between Israel and Lebanon. Proving the next World War will escalate from a religious war into a global abomination. Inevitably, the muslims will unite and stage a mass revolution across the globe, whereby we, as the better people, will be forced to retaliate with fury and hydrogen bombs. The leaders of the revolution could include Osama Bin Laden and depending on time period, Saddam Hussain could get ressurected from the dead throguh new scientific technology.
