In case it aint been mentioned on here: ATTEMPTED CAR BOMB ATTACK IN LONDON

Two 'Baghdad-style' car bombs were set to go off close to a nightclub which had around 1,000 people in it.

A person who clearly doesn't respect God posted this, as part of a long message, on al Hesbah website: "Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed"

*Allah is a name for the unknowable supreme being and can not be translated into a single word in the English language.

Considering that this was an incredibly crude device using gasoline and propane, I'd hardly call this "Baghdad" style. Devices in Iraq are far far more sophisticated, and have actual high explosives, and could do more than burn. With the exception of the propane tanks, which will blow up a little, these cars would just burn.

Honestly I can't even figure out why they put nails in the cars. Far as I can tell by the description of the devices, the nail wouldn't have gone anywhere. These are amateurish devices, nothing at all like what is used in Iraq.

That was not even a claim of responsibility for the attack. Fact is, last I checked, we do not know who is responsible for the attempted attacks in London. For all we know, it was locals with no connection to al-Qaeda. Hell, could even have a connection to some disgruntled non-IRA group in Ireland. We don't know. All we really have is a possible link to a local in prison. Possible.

Also, you did translate Allah. It translates into God. Either that, or Allah IS the translation. It is the same as God and Jehova. Don't be such a moron

Glad you know something the police don't. There may have been two bombs, but I'm yet to see any indication they were meant to go off where they were...just because they were parked outside the nightclub doesn't mean that's where they were planned to be set off.

By the sounds of eyewitness reports, it was a bomber that bottled it...

1. I have a copy of a Qur'an by a respected translator (Muhammed Marmaduke Pickthall), which was compiled with the help of other translators to get as close to the original as possible, and this is a quote from it: "I have retained the word Allah throughout, because there is no corresponding word in English. The word Allah (the stress is on the last syllable) has neither feminine nor plural, and has never been applied to anything other than the unimaginable Supreme Being. I use the word "God" only where the corresponding word ilah is found in the Arabic."

2. The Daily Mail called it 'Baghdad-style', not me (though the even was reported by other media companies)

3. There have been nail bomb explosions before. The bomb was designed so that when a volatile cloud of gas is released, it will ignite and cause an explosion plus a fireball, sending nails pretty much everywhere.

4. You don't help your arguments by calling people morons, especially when you are wrong.

Yah, your right. It was all probably fun and games. It's not like muslims ever try to kill british people in the UK after all.

Speaking of which: why do muslims stay in the UK? It's obviously a shit islamphobic country, so wouldn't they be better off in Saudi Arabia or something?

They were set to go off via mobile phone. So presumably, and I admit I'm just guessing here but it seems quite logical, they were parked in the desired place before the would-be bombers retreated to a safe distance and prepared to explode the things, but like I said I'm just guessing. In any case they were still bombs.

Yes...that's what I meant...that it was all fun and games...

No. Not quite. What I said, and what I meant, was that the bombs may not have been meant to go off outside the nightclub. A pedantic point, maybe, but then, it's not that far to the Houses of Parliament, or any other large landmark. That would've made much more of an effect, would it not?

Hey everyone -

2 crap efforts at car bombs and a car that was set on fire and crashed into Glasgow Airport, which caused no injuries whatsoever.

But hey - Brown's here to protect us, eh?

Here's a fucking revolutionary thought: how about not trying to set bombs off in the first place?

I guess that type of thinking is too advanced for muslims though, since all I ever see them do in the UK - despite bombing - is rampant homophobia, misogyny, book burnings and threats of beheadings.

A waste of space, the lot of them.

The UK has just upped its terror level to critical and their government says another terrorist assault is immenent.

But it looks like amateurs trying to do the bombings. Either that or Al Qaeda is using a bunch of noobs to attack Britain.

I disagree with Bush not raising the terror level in the US. If they're attacking our ally, it's probably with the intent to send a signal to the US.

...

It's the new Brown government trying to garner support by getting the public scared, and nothing more.

As much as I agree with the first statement in that it would be a nice change, I do wonder what you mean by quoting my statement and then making that point. In case my name confuses you slightly, or has anything to do with it - I'm not arabic. White British Male, in fact. The name merely makes the roleplaying I do for my region more applicable.

Furthermore, I know several muslims, and you've evidently seen very few, or the ones that get themselves on television. The muslims I know love this country, follow our laws, and respect our cultures - and they publicly denounced the bombings when local bigots questioned them.

Blah, blah, blah, I know teh muslims and they are all cool.

You can't be british and be muslim. The two are mutually incompatible. If you believe in one, you can't believe in the other.

Not to mention that you can't really "believe" in Britain. It's there, no questions asked.

Why is it always in these types of thread one side goes to exaggeration of threat and another goes to underplaying it ?

It is almost as if, nobody is interested in understanding the issue.

Let's wait for the details to come out and then form opinions.

Agreed. If you were referring to me (I get the feeling I was "underplaying" it), I was just pointing out (pedantically) other possibilities. I've no doubt they were bombs, though amateur at best...it's just that there are better targets to go for than Tiger effing Tiger.

not you personally...I was just skimming posts, not noting who exactly wrote the posts or their posting history..

In threads like these, you can immediately see people making speculations with no basis at all...

Note the third post in the glasgow thread.

Technically, a phobia is a fear of something. That's why in my opinion, ther terms "Islamophobia" and "Homophobia" are applied incorrectly to about 99% of the people they are applied to (since most hate Muslims and Homosexuals and don't fear them in the least)
