Council Must Approve Pirate Flag

Apparently, if your kid is having a birthday party, you can't fly any flag except the national flags without express permission from the local council.

Here in the US, while you may live in a neighborhood that has a homeowner's association that restricts the kinds of things you can hang in your yard (such as flags), no one is really going to tie your colon in a knot for hanging a Jolly Roger for your kid's birthday party for one day.

Not only do they have to apply, they have to pay 75 pounds for the application.

What kind of neighbour gets upset about the Jolly Roger?

Probably one of the wankers on the local council.

If they can't fly their pirate, fly the home owner's association flag then have the kids storm it, take it down and burn it while dressed like pirates! :)

Maybe the Homeowners association was afraid that the kids will be persuaded to try alternative lifestyles.

You know, that kind of priate....

Had to be done.

This is a clear case of religious discrimination! Had they displayed a cross at their home, there would have been no problem, but a pirate flag? They are trying to conspire against the one true Noodly Lord!

HOA's suck. The one I am in tells us we can not put dog kennels in our yards (how stupid is that?) and if we want to change something on our house that is visible to the outside (painting, re-structuring,fences) we have to get permission.

Ah..but they hung it BEFORE his birthday. And then had to take it down after complaints. If they had waited to hang it on his birthday, poor kid would have had his party.

But apprently that would make them as bad as the.....Danes!:eek:Nothing wrong with burning a flag according to danish law, though you're advised to not do it in public and only when the flag is old and dirty. And I don't recall alot of danes burning flags, as far as I recall it was danish flags being burned by muslims.;)

So, it would make them liberal potheads? :pMore like liberal alcoholics, though we do have alot of potheads aswell in the younger generations.

I don't really know, whenever I hear that word(Danes) my mind turns towards bacon, and then everything else is just a haze.Well, we're the largest exporter of pork in the world, so I can see why. :D

And to make an on-topic reply, that rule just seems silly, though I bet that alot of countries have rather strange rules regarding flags. In Denmark you're allowed to fly the flag of any nordic country, including the Faraoes and Greenland and the flag of the EU and the UN, though you're supposed to fly a danish flag in a position that's atleast as prominent as the other flag aswell. To fly the flag of any other foreign nation you need a permit from the local police chief. No rules on pirate flags though. :p

I doubt most people are gonna complain about a pirate flag in someones backyard, though I'm sure that there are some people that will complain about just about anything.

Well that's just wrong. HOAs in the US often verge on Stalinist. But your point is well taken about letting the kid having his flag.
