Life is tough after death.

What does a middle aged man do when the doctor tells him he's got only a short while to live? Give away all his stuff away and spend his last days traveling around the world, of course.
Only, it turned out John didn't have cancer... And now he's broke.

Hm. Well, it could be worse. :p Last guy I met who was told he had six months to live died in less than one - cancer of the gall bladder, bad stuff.

That is both funny and tradgic, it shows though how easy it is to let our morals slip and engage in criminal activity. He thought he was dieing so decided to stop paying back his morgage.

Would you keep making those payments? ;)

And to think most people would be on their knees thanking God they were going to live.

Did he never think to get a second opinion?

Not criminal. As for running up credit card bills and the like, fuck 'em. After the mafia level interest rates they charge any time someone successfully screws a credit card company I enjoy it.

I don't know what to make of this. I feel sorry for him and I'm wondering how it's possible that inflamation could be misdiagnosed as fatal cancer with no possibility of a different diagnosis (according to the hospital).

But on the other hand, if I'm diagnosed with a fatal cancer, the first thing I would do is get a second opinion...hell, probably a third.

They re-looked at it, and said no different diagnosis would've been made.

I actually heard about it on the radio a while ago... I feel sorry for him. He did the most sensible thing in the circumstances, he thought he could just have fun and die with everything sorted out, and then it all falls out from beneath him.

So much for the certainty of death, eh?

You know, you always have the option of not spending more than you can afford.

But hey, what the hell, when did anyone ever have to be responsible for themselves?

Yes I'll inform my mother who had to pay her medical bills with a credit card that she perhaps just shouldn't of gotten that cancer treatment.

The fact that the interest rate is high enough that short of a lottery win there's no way in hell you can ever pay it off.

If I gave her $10,000 to pay on that bill the interest on the remaining balance would still be so high that she'd still never make a dent. In essence her options are either declare bankruptcy or die in debt.

Credit card companies only exist by fucking over anyone who uses them. That's why I don't have any credit card debt. I'll be damned if I'll help them screw over anyone else.

And without them fucking people over your mum wouldn't have been able to pay for cancer treatment. Got to take the good with the bad

And her medical insurance/universal health care? Or did she not have access to either?

It's STILL not the charge card company. They post the rate on EVERY bill they send you, and it goes up more the more you stiff them. I'm not saying your mom had a choice, but being angry with the credit card company is like being pissed off at the lottery that you didn't win.

Oh yes she had cancer insurance, which paid for part of the surgery, but with follow up care and such. It's either charge it or not get treatment. Which is a death sentence.

Funny thing is I can't get the woman to declare bankruptcy. She's got stubborn pride about paying the bastards off. I've no such silly qualms, given the chance I'd fuck 'em every time.

Heh now while I agree that banks are money grabbing shisters who don't play fair and ultimatly deserve any form of payback they get, you are wrong when you say that this guy did not criminal activity.

If you know you are going to die, and then stop paying your mortgage you are engageing in fraud. Anyhoo that aside I was really making comment on how easy it is for seemingly moral people to do immoral things if they think they will get away with it.

If you don't pay your mortgage the bank just takes your house, etc. Its not fraud since you've already set up a way for them to reclaim their loss

Fraud would be getting a mortgage based on false information

Me? Heh probably not! But its a moot point as I dont have a mortgage.

Please, let's not let logic get in the way here.

Good thing he didn't die doing something stupid, fun and potentially lethal like mountain climbing or a japanese game show.

Then his family would sue. :p
