Isaiah Washington fired because he's black?

Nah, I don't think so.

http://www.rte.ie/arts/2007/0629/washingtoni.html

He just doesn't understand, does he? He was fired because he's a bigot, same reason people like Don Imus & those two idiots in chicago(or wherever) were fired.

And what does he do when he gets fired? He immediately plays the race card(It must be cause I'm black). Nah, that isn't it.

And the sad thing is, this type of thinking about gays isn't uncommon in our (black) culture.

So the question is: Is it okay for people who have been the subject of bigoted opinions and policies to be bigots?

Wait, so he gets fired for discriminatory remarks against a gay colleague, and he claims that it was because he's black???
Sorry, I can't bend my brain enough to even begin to understand that logic.

he should of combined his race card with his military service card for +12 damage to career

in all seriousness hes a dick and should never work in that town again though I'm left pondering why Grey's anatomy is still on T.V

Stupid question -- he was not the only black actor on the show, was he?

no, but his skin is darker than the other one, and she is a woman. This is what I hear from my neighbors, is that us white people don't like the darker skinned black people and that's why he got fired, because the whiteys couldn't handle a dark skinned black man on TV.

It's pretty sad to me that he got fired, he was a really good character, but if he can't get along and be nice, I totally understand.

That, apart from misuse of "of" (you mean "have"), was a very funny comment.

this is changing the subject slightly but ireland has had its first ever black mayor elected. he is from nigeria (i think) and has lived here for 7 years. now i know it isn't very exciting in USA but it is amazing for here.

what do you all think?

i doubt he was really fired for using the word faggot either.

if an actor is valuable to a show, they dont care what he does off the set.

Thank God some one else fucking gets it.
It is not "should of" it sounds like "should of" because it is a damn contraction, it is "should've," people are just too stupid to realize it is a contraction and write it like it sounds instead of how it is and what makes sense.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a more blatant playing of the race card...

It's sad, every time someone pulls something like this it becomes harder for those that actually are affected by racial discrimination.

If he's qualified and does a great job, then it shouldn't be any more notable than if a white mayor was elected.

I think that the point was that after his comment -- and his ill-advised bringing it up every time they appeared in public appearances -- the atmosphere on the set was so poisonous that he HAD to go.

If someone is a continual thorn in the side of any business, once they can demonstate that s/he is detrimental to productivity, out s/he goes.

very good point katganistan

however, ireland is guilty of some of the most ingrained rascism i have ever encountered, particularly against immigrants. which is a bit odd as it has birthed millions of emigrants throughout it's history

yeah. its not because he is black; its not because he used an unfortunate word in public twice; its because he is a pain in the ass.

it happens.

i dont see that going on and on about it is going to get him any more work.

F, the end.
Most of my English teachers threatened to mark off 10 points from the grade if they saw "alot" used.

I don't know wether to luagh or cry at that one. Considering how for some members of the black community it is all about the lighter skin.

Every time a high-profile black guy makes a mistake and pays for it, he has to cry discrimination. Jesus Christ, that man should grow up! He paid for being an ass, not because you were black. If he wants to go through life blaming everyone but himself for his mistakes, he can just shut the fuck up.

Isaiah Washington can kiss my black azz. Every time I turn around, this clown is opening his mouth and saying something stupid. From that stupid crap "I did not call T.R a faggot" to comparing himself to Malcolm X (which pissed off a WHOLE lot of black folks at several black forums I belong to). IW, you did NOT get fired because you're black, you got fired cause you acted an azz at WORK. The woman that writes/produces that show is BLACK, and he's trying to say he got fired due to racism? STFU IW. THIS is why legitimate racial prejudice claims are overlooked or not taken seriously, cause whiny-azz folks want to holler "racism" when it doesn't apply to their situation.

He SHOULD have been fired when he choked that other guy -- and when he created a bad work atmosphere. I can understand him being upset that they made him jump through all those hoops as if they would let him keep that job, but still he brought this ALL on himself. He's already being put on another show, he needs to bite his tongue and STFU before he loses that opportunity as well cause if I was writing/producing anything he wouldn't even be considered.

Reading thru that OP article, I'd wager he was fired cause he was an asshole, not because he was black.
He basically said the entire cast and crew were racist - and also implied they were all queer - and afraid of him cause he's so tall and handsome with such a 'booming black' voice (does he think of himself as James Earl Jones or something?)
He was also totally full of himself. "ohh it's everyone else's fault not mine!" He even draged up that pathetic old "I've got friends who are gay" defence. But he didn't even have the balls to do that properly. He had to say it was his own mother who was friends with a bunch a faggots (not himself - which in itself belies his homophobia) - and regularly called them that. Jeez, he's stooping to using then insulting his own mother.

Grade A assholey there.

Considering the number of blacks in Ireland could probably fit into a mini*, then it is a notable event.

(*ok, that is an exageration. There's 16000 Nigerians in Ireland, making up 0.37% of the population. It's still a damn small number you'll agree)

Hollywood character actor here.

Isaiah Washington was not just fired because of the bigoted remark he made about T. R. Knight, that is simply a part of it. When producers and directors choose to let an actor go, it usually has to do with how that person gets along with the rest of the cast. You shoot 22-30 episodes of a show working 12-14 hours a day. You live with each other.

Mr. Washington was fired because the rest of the cast (and possibly crew) couldn't stand him. The only reason he wouldn't be fired was if he was the star and crucial to the plot of the show. Otherwise there are built in plot devices over the period of a show where if a person must leave a show (for whatever reasons) there are sub plots designed to logically offload their character.

Washington pissed off his fellow actors, the directors and the producers and he is trying to blame other folks for something that is HIS fault. Same old sad story from Tinsel Town, boys and girls.
