I was trawling through old Dinosaur Comics the other day, and came across this:

Which brings up the whole question of creepy kids shows. As far as they go, Téléfrançais was one of the creepiest (strange puppets, talking fruit, evil monkey paws granting skewed wishes, etc), but it was not alone.

Of course, it never seemed creepy at the time…

What do you think is the creepiest kids show of all time? What, exactly, makes it creepy?

the villain was named HooDoo and he rode around on his Hatamaran, and was haunted by music from the "hat band" while he was terrorizing talking hats.....while this boy who fell into a hat tried to help them.

also, there is a character named Raunchy Rabbit. :eek:

Téléfrançais was more like someone's twisted dream than an acid trip. Most of it wasn't totally horrifying, but you know that feeling you get when something is subtly wrong? That's Téléfrançais.

yes, it was. I had a friend who had it on VHS and we were all tripping at his house and he was like "hey! you know what might make sense now?"

it doesn't make sense when you are high or tripping or drunk or anything, we tried.

I just always wondered.......who was in that meeting when this show was pitched? did they think "OMG that would be a wonderful kids show!"

what kind of drugs do you have to be on for that to be a good idea?

Sid and Marty Krofft were apparently on acid. I don't know any creepy kid's shows myself, having been brought up on Sesame Street and Thomas the Tank Engine (It made me a train geek).

when I was in junior high I watched Shining Time Station it was pretty good, my kids watch Thomas.....it's not as good.

I watched that when I was like three or four. Thomas...I have found it a few times on PBS, and the British kindergarteners who sing the theme song made me laugh. George Carlin narrates some of those and he's in Shining Time (Which is funny, because he's the dirtiest comedian in the world). I find that Thomas the Tank Engine is like coke...it's really fucking addicting.
