You Must Choose!

If you were forced by some series of unlikely circumstances to choose only one of your senses that would remain, which would you choose?

Personally I would rather hear. What about you?

I'd keep my common sense, and avoid any situation in which I'd be forced to choose... In other words, the last option.

See. Because that way, I could study engineering and learn how to build artificial replacements for all the others. Come to think of it, that would actually kill two birds with one stone...

i think my favourite would be my sense of touch, i just can't get by without touching things...
then again, sight is pretty handy too...

Sight, so I could still look at porn and play WoW. My life would be virtually unchanged.

Touch is the only one crucial to our survival.

Doesn't the last choice kind of invalidate the poll? I'm wondering why, given the option to run in fear and keep all your senses, any of you opted to vote for the other choices.

Eliminate the last choice, and I'd keep sight. Without taste there's no reason not to eat as healthy as possible, prolonging my life. Losing touch and smell protects me from pain and bad smells respectively, and considering the two remaining options, I'd rather be deaf than blind.

More seriously, although my first instinct is to keep sight, I think losing feeling would be worse. As in, not being able to tell that my foot is bleeding and losing so much blood that I die is worse than not being able to watch TV.

Edit: and for the person that said seeing so you could watch porn... why would you watch porn if you can't feel anything anyway?

I dunno about that. I saw a documentary (well, most of it) about a bunch of kids who had no sense of feeling. They got along okay, except they, being kids, were kinda stupid and kept hurting themselves without knowing it was doing them harm. Presumably, we all know what hurts and what doesn't by the time we're old enough to read, so we wouldn't go stick our hands in the oven just because we can't feel anymore. :p

You'd never know how crucial an injury was, you'd never be able to tell your feet were on the ground, you'd never feel the sparks when you touch your lover's hands, you'd never be able to enjoy the warmth of the sun, etc. Just think about how much you're feeling and touching all the time, and imagine life without that. You wouldn't feel very much part of the world, would you?

exactly. then again, at least without it you'll never feel the pain of being kicked in the balls again, not like you'd be able to use them without the ability to sense feeling

The interviewees seemed plenty happy - I'm just pointing out that touch doesn't seem 'essential' to life, as important as it surely is.

i was actually saying that in a more general way, for the 50% of us who can.
and i'm sure there's an appropriate place to apply that to for females...

anyway, without the ability to feel, you wouldn't be able to tell whether somebody knocked you over or you just tripped, which i'm sure could get rather annoying.

It's possible - they didn't feel anything like hunger or heat. Not sure if that means they didn't feel anything. I suppose if you were completely numb, as in completely paralyzed from the head down, that would be worse than death - so maybe that's worse than blindness. :p

How deep does this lack of feeling run? Because I can induce an orgasm in myself without using physical contact.

Sight. granted not being able to taste your food would suck, so would not having any ability to detect smells, and touching...

however, I have a shitload of tunes in my head and I tend to do most things without sound anyway...

so keeping my sight would have the least impact on my life.

wait a minute

see
hear
smell
taste
touch.........

yeah, touch. I go through bouts of not being able to see, hear, smell or taste and I live........although I did go through a few days with heightened sensation and that was freaking annoying......

Yeah, I think I'd follow suit with Vetalia. It's either I keep my sight or my other extremely powerful sense, touch, and I don't know how to read Braille or do anything blind, so sight it is.

I have gone my entire life without being able to smell, so I really wouldn't miss it. In fact, other than when I have to determine if milk has gone bad, I actually enjoy not being able to smell anything. People rarely talk about things that smell good, just farts and sewage and wet dogs.
