The new Transformers movie comes out nationwide in a week. To get into the spirit of things, I present to you the "Obligatory Transformers Thread", where you can:

- Reminisce about a childhood gone by
- Talk about your favorite character
- Argue which side is better
- Argue which series was better
- Argue whether or not this movie will be good
- AND MUCH MORE!

Also...just because I have to ask...

If you had the choice, which side, Autobots or Decepticons, would you choose? And branching off from that, what would you transform into (try to keep it consistant with the side you chose, i.e civilian ground vehicles for Autobots, government/military craft for Decepticons).

And why couldn't Optimus Prime be a flat front tractor? The aesthetic in the design seems to work to obscure that they are walking trucks or planes or whatever (and Starscream looks completely awkward), I don't understand that. I guess what I hate the most is that no matter what my misgivings I'm going to watch it...so here's hoping for some reason they pulled it out of their ass and it's at least watchable...I should keep an open mind...

The Transformers was the best series (none of this G1 crap, it's called The Transformers) and Megatron was the best of 'em all. Come on, really, as a kid who really cared he had a trigger for a crotch, he was just bad ass. Galvatron to, as long as you went by the Movie and the Comic.

Weren't those things (LaserDiscs) insanely expensive when they came out? I remember not owning one for that reason - I think a movie was something like twice the price. Craziness.

I don't have a picture of it though. I'm starting to rebuild my 'technology before it was really cool' collection with the cabinet hi-fi and the 50" rear projection SD, all free off Craigslist-Yay free stuff off Craigslist/free time/cargo van!

If I were a Transformer, I'd be a Decepticon, no doubt about it. Hail Megatron!

For my alternate mode, I'd be an APC. Specifically the Soviet BMP-1:

some of the cassette robots were sold seperately. I had the lion one, the two little humanoid ones and two cassetts that transformed into a jet and tank, and combined to form one robot.

Soundwave could easily have been a working player. When he transformed into robot mode the main torso was the player, which with modern technology woul dhave been plenty of room for the electronics.

The problem was that the cassettes had spool holes that were too small. In other words, you could take a real cassette and fit it into Soundwave fine, but one of the transforming cassettes wouldn't have fit into a real player because the spool hubs would be too big.

I guess they could have just dispensed with the cassette robots.

Also apparently it's slightly harder to move all the pieces into place with a cab-over design.

Gotta love the new articulate designs where you can see the pieces. No disappearing parts or low movement ranges.

Lovely collectors items. It's a good thing I got them before the Movie comes out. After that, prices are gonna just soar!

Ramjet looks slightly weared, but Dirge is in completely mint condition. I'll have fun renovating them.

There are three, I think. Starscream is the only one whose name I can think of, because he was the power grabber guy.

If you had the choice, which side, Autobots or Decepticons, would you choose? And branching off from that, what would you transform into (try to keep it consistant with the side you chose, i.e civilian ground vehicles for Autobots, government/military craft for Decepticons).

Dude, I really want to see that. I'm a young bastard, so I remember very little (maybe one episode of Energon when I was like eight or nine) I did watch Cybertron after school while it was on, for all that it's worth. I'd be an Autobot, either an ekranoplan, seaplane, or flying boat (Heavily armed).
