Forgetting the ethics, I just want to know whether they are good for people or not, in the "healthy" sense.
An egg company (Lion, I think) has got a slogan "eggs - fast food, and good for you", but then mars used to say "a [extremely fatty] mars a day helps you WORK, rest and PLAY". Also I've found some information that apparently eggs are laiden with saturated fat. So are eggs good for you or not? Anyone know how I can find some INDEPENDENT research (but preferably not from doctors since they get virtually everything wrong, and definitely not from any government)?
Hmm, what day is this? Tuesday? I'm afraid Tuesdays are bad for eggs. Now come Wednesday they'll be the panacea of health. Tuesdays however they're pure poison.
They're good for some people, bad for others..
They're good for making cakes; cakes make me happy; happy is good (stress-reducing etc).

There are no doubt reports and studies out there that will tell you that they're terrible for you, that they're good for you, that they cause terrorism, that they're inherently evil, or any number of other things. Reports and studies tend to be like that.
For myself, I look at it in much the same way that I look at eating meat, or drinking milk.
I am a animal whose species has evolved as an omnivore. Eggs, by their very definition, are little pockets of proteins that exist to feed animals and help them grow.
Ergo (in my world), eggs are good for you.
Eggs are Schroedinger's food, they're both good for you and bad for you. Until you eat them.

Guessing you've seen Hack's new avatar. :D
Eggs are good for you. but like everything else, ALOT of eggs is bad for you.

It's opinion, not proven fact that we evolved eating meat as well as non-meat stuff... after all, we don't have the digestive systems of meat-eating animals (which get rid of meat as waste very quickly after getting the nutrients, unlike leaving it in the stomach for ages where it carcinogenically rots as would be the case if a vegetarian/vegan animal ate meat and as is the case in humans).
But in any case, just cus something has protein/is protein, that don't mean it's inherently good... depends on the type of protein and on what comes with it (fat etc)
I get eggs from a neighbour who has chickens. It's the bulk of the animal protein I eat. If I were chowing down on steaks the rest of the week, my daily egg would probably not be a great idea. But, I'm not.

They're both good and bad for you, like most everything else. Depends how much you eat, how active you are, what else you eat, etc.

I've always enjoyed eggs - low in calories, high in protein. Can't be a bad thing, I wouldn't think. And they're delicious, of course. :p
Eggs contain cholesterol. They also contain a substance, whose name escapes me, that lowers cholesterol. Also, I have heard that the evidence linking cholesterol to heart disease is somewhat shaky.
So eggs are probably good for you.

No, but I want to now.

I seem to remember that eggs are good for you. All the fat is contained within the yolk, however that fat is unsaturated ('good fat').
However the yolk also contains some compound that supposed to be good for the brain.
Meh, all in all I would recommend eating eggs. Free-range/organic eggs tend to contain considerably more of those omega fatty acids thingys which are supposed to pretty good for you as well.
Oh, but don't eat more than 5 eggs per week else you're at a high risk of constipation.

And in any case, shouldn't the comparison be with omnivores rather than meat-eaters?
And of course it's a different ball-game when you start cooking things; few other animals do that.

I'm eating eggs no matter if they're good for me or not!
Remember, eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may surely die.
they aren't bad for you as long as you don't eat to many of them, the same goes for almost all other stuff people put in them.
also, read a little bit here (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=pubmed&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=11023006&ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVAbstractPlus)(also see the related links section to the right) i think you have to pay for most articles though.
