What people? Ones being indignant for the sake of it?

Most likely. But if a Mexican wishes to declare himself to be an American he has every right. The USA can not take that away, no matter how hard its citizens claim that American = US citizen.

You took the original name and made it more accurate therefore I see no problem

The problem is the lack of courtesy.

Most residents of the United Kingdom of etc. would prefer to be referred to as "British" (not including Irish Republicans or the Scots), just as most residents of the United States of America would prefer to be called American. I've never met a Salvadoran or Dominican (and I know a fair few) that was offended by America's use of America, and all of them have referred to citizens of the USA as "Americans".

So I really don't see why it's such a problem to call Americans... well, Americans.

And also, USAmericans and UKoGBaNIrish sounds dumb.

So if someone doesn't use your preference you should be offended, even if their choice of word is equally accurate or even moreso? I would disagree

You can prefer one word but be satisfied with another. I prefer to be called Irish but I won't complain if someone calls me UKian, British, or Northern Irish because they are all equally accurate

They're fine thanks :)

Edit : And you are also making things more inaccurate to (attempt) annoyance. Cabra was making things even more specific than they are

Bullshit. You know damn well the terms "USAmericans" and "USians" are childish attempts to piss off Americans, which, you'll note, are only serving to hijack a thread. And they aren't working. No one's flamed you or anything. They just point out how moronic it is to use those terms.

OK; that's fine if you don't care which title you prefer; however, I don't think it's too much to ask to be called the title I prefer, considering that I would return the courtesy if it was asked of me.

My aim was not to flamebait at all. Personally I don't use the term USAmerican but I don't think anyone should be offended by its use as it is more accurate. If you don't like my position on this fair enough but it is still my position.

And if you hadn't noticed the thread has been hijacked yet again in another fun way ;)

Accrued Constituencies
26-06-2007, 18:06
Progressive really has become a fairly loaded term. It's one of those things you can only really accurately label in hindsight. After all, who's to say what constitutes progressive for any given period.

For the most part; "Progressive" is a new, biased, synonym for 'liberal' in current usage.

No, no. You get one of those jars strawberries with the syrupy stuff in it and just spoon it onto the shortcake.

Tom Cruise Has A Crap Religion ('http://www.reuters.com/article/entertainmentNews/idUSL253889920070625?feedType=RSS&rpc=22&sp=true')

So says the German Government...

Apparently, it's enough just to have one Scientologist on your film to have the German government cease cooperation with your film.

While I find this funny and hilarious, I was wondering what others might think of this.

I think it's either trauma or caution, since the last "cult" almost destroyed Germany in mad attempt to rule the world.
