When I was your age!

Call to power

nifty little site reminding you that you have done nothing with your life and you are essentially a waste of space just put in your age :)

At age 17:

Nicolo Paganini dazzled audiences with his virtuosity and pawned his violin in order to pay gambling debts.

Artificial heart developer Robert Jarvik began working on his first invention, a surgical stapler.

After giving birth at age 8, Nigerian girl Mum-zi became a grandmother at 17.

Rugby college student William Webb Ellis invented the game of rugby.

Author Joseph Conrad, wanting to be a sailor, first went to sea.

American author Jack London ran away to sea on a sealing ship headed for the North Pacific. After becoming a hobo and spending time in jail, he resolved to get an education.

Composer Felix Mendelssohn wrote his overture to Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." By this time he had also composed twelve symphonies.

Walt Whitman began teaching school in Long Island.

Taylor Vincent attracted federal investigation with a fake hit list on his blog, even though it contained lines like "John Johnson, Jack Johnson, John Jackson, Jack Jackson" and such literary greats as Bram Stoker and Danté Aligheri.

I could of been a grandmother or a teacher maybe even a hobo!

When I was your age all this were fields. Then sometime before the war factories were built. Then the war came and the Germans bombed the factories, so it all became fields again. Then the war finished and the factories were rebuilt. Then Mrs Thatcher was elected and the factories closed down. Now they're all houses!

What's that got to do with anything? No idea, just wanted an excuse to post it. *shrug*

I think (as I get older) that here in the Uk we have lost the respect that we once had for our elders, so it is with respect that I commend your ability to call that woman by her name and not refer to her as 'that bloody woman'. I can just about do this and not spit, although the urge is strong.

What was it back in the early 90s'? There was a catchphrase, by Bart Simpson, Oh Yeah! Underachiever, and proud of it.:p

Not calling something by its name only increases the fear of the thing, and by god was she something... *shudders*

Yeah, but that is on the edges of the what I suppose would be a bell curve distribution.

umm thatmight be true, but also by calling something by it's real name you obtain power over it.
I think 'that woman's' real name is summit like Asmodeus, or Asmodion, or well I truly don't know!

When I was 18 I joined NS (it simply didn't exist when I was 17). Beat that :p

when I was 17? I was working 60 hours a week (cut back for senior year) and won some like prestigious science award, but didn't go to Michigan or whatever to receive it (might not have been Michigan, but was def. one of the northern states that starts with an M)

that's all.

oh, and my Camaro got wrecked by a drunk driver, luckily I wasn't in it.

Painter Salvador Dali smashed a fellow student's violin in an effort to demonstrate the supremacy of painting over music.

Hmm. Now, come to think of it...

All of the examples for my age are either to do with sport or the arts, neither of which I can do. Or joining the army, but I think I'll pass.

Haha, I'm off the hook! By my age, accomplishments are apparently no longer required (only 2 worth a damn and only 1 that's of any public importance). Yay! *Goes back to relaxing*

(Also, please note the bolded one ;))

At age 45:

Andre Marie Ampere, a French physicist, discovered the rules relating magnetic fields and electric currents.

George Foreman recaptured the heavyweight championship with a 10th round knockout, becoming the oldest person ever to win the heavyweight championship.

Earl Vickers created a program for displaying things other people accomplished when they were your age.

John Vida quit a 3-pack-a-day smoking habit. As of six years later, he hasn't had a single drag off a cigarette or any other smoking utensil.

Cora Judd overcame a debilitating, lifelong aversion to math by taking three semesters of math classes at the local community college.

come to think of it, i should probably set my location to something more appropriate, now that i'm no longer 18...

Didn't do much before then, either.
And haven't really done much since...

What an underachiever, I was selling stuff to pay my gambling debts by the age of 15!

It's sobering to think that when Mozart was my age, he had been dead for eleven years.
