What, in your opinion, is the greatest form of music? Which is the worst?

Classical and metal music are clearly the best. Country and Opera are the worst. In my opinion.

Ah well, I like rock music. So for me it's the greatest form of music. It's my own bias, though.

Hiphop sucks, so I've said it. Any further comment on it is not neccesery.

The best form of music is all the music that came after caveman rock pounding. The worst is caveman rock-pounding. There, that was easy.

ohh dear one of THESE debates... I can't resist.... My two favourite genres are folk and rock, with blues up there as well, I love bluegrass too, not all that cheesy country though, and I don't really *get* classical, maybe i'm just too thick :P. One thing I do hate is how the black music scene is all referred to as "RnB" or "Rhythm and Blues," or it is in Britain anyway, and thats not true because it isn't! I'm not bashing it though, I just dont feel the music in a lot of it, unless its got something important to say, Linkin Park is about as "rap" as I get. What else.... oh yes dance and electronica, or "beats," I can't stand it lol. Anyway, good to hear from people with different tastes......

I'm going to have to say Classical Era (Baroque and alla that) and Rock N Roll FTW!

The Worst is Gangsta Rap... its all the same and it has no spirit. Hip Hop is at least dancible...

The best form of music is the kind which gives you a glimpse of the heart and mind of its creator, which is made out of a simple deisre to make music.

The worst kind is the kind that's industrialised, and artificially produced.

Clearly Country and Western and any manufactured pop band are outstanding in the fields of being the worst....as for the best it is clearly a matter of opinion....I much prefer the riff raff of rock, indie and acoustic....but much respect to those who prefer other forms of ear entertainment

Those major label stoned attention whores (insert "oldest profession" joke) with their "primal rhythms" attempting to draw out the beast in all of us are merely playing to a chauvanistic society that crushes individualism and grain with sickening efficiency and corrupting our youths! :p

Best: Hip Hop (though the 'Gangsta' stuff is obviously ridiculous). Here's an example of what I would call good hip hop: "Gimmer as Mic" (translates as gimme a mic, who woulda figured that? ;)) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLbToUx23jI&NR=1)

Worst: uh, dunno. Country probably, or these forms of jazz that sound like a random sequence of tones.

I'm going to be a music geek and take your use of the word 'form' literally:

The best musical form is the ubiquitous 'sonata form'. None other has had such a wide-ranging and long-lasting influence in the composition and analysis of music.

Classical and metal are the best but I'll listen to almost anything, even techno and pop are okay. Rap and hip hop are the worst, rap isn't really music and hip hop tries and fails so hard to be cool that it's painfully embarrasing to listen to.

Obviously not, the oldest profession, as any respected academic will tell you, is the position of "Press Secretary". Although some referred to these secretaries as "Bait" or "Dummies", cave paintings depict these men amongst men as defending their nomadic-"home" of the day from all comers. The brave, if dangerous, method of sating the threat's hunger by offering the self as meal has survived to this day.

The best form of music is the self-contained player with headphones that you'll encounter throughout the day. The worst form is the pavement-pounding car stereo that rolls slowly through your neighbourhood at night.

I generally like metal and punk the most. I don't know much jazz and funk but I like that too out of what I've heard. One thing I would really like to hear more of is gamelan, Indonesian folk music. I heard some from a link from wikipedia but I can't find more than 5 songs on the net. I usually don't like soft rock, pop, country or EDM but even with with them there's some things I like.

worst: I would say rap, but rap's not music. It's talking. I wouldn't say that a conversation is music. A speech sure isn't music. Poetry technically isn't music. So, I would say country. Stupid country. Not that I have something against hillbilly cowboys whose mother, moose, sister, and wife are all the same person. Yes, I said person instead of people. Hillbillies are known to reproduce like mice on sex stimulates. I just hate it as an assault on my ears and sanity. Thrash metal is third and this modern, popular, pussy rock shit is second. I don't care how much they loved their whore girl friends. When a woman is a whore, she's going to "see" (as in <3 <3 :fluffle::fluffle::fluffle: :) ) other men. It's what whores do. It she didn't do it, she wouldn't be such a whore.

Beethoven may have popularized and revolutionized the Sonata, but without the Concerto to form a basis for the Sonata, it wouldn't have had nearly as much success or influence on classical music.

Worst: Boybands/12-tone anything/Atonal anything. Jesus H. Christ, grow some musicality. Traditionally: The Scherzo.

Concerto is a genre, not a form. What defintion you are using? Sonata form was a development out of binary and ternary forms. Sonata form was widely used before Beethoven.

Concering 12-tone and atonal music, define 'musicality'.
